In TMA if you read the description under the scouting orb in the loadout screen, it says that the orb sends images to the eye by means of aetheric vibrations, a fancy way of saying air vibrations (scientists, correct me if i'm wrong.) This leads me to beleive that the eye transmits images to Garrett's brain by slight vibrations in the socket, causing nerve signals to be sent out and be translated by the brain. Its not unbelievable, considering what they can do nowadays and in the thief world, magic was always a ready fix-it when the tech couldn't cut it.

No. Æther was thought to be, among other (more spiritual) things, the medium which light moves in, like air is to sound. (

The æther Thief 2 was probably referring to is more likely magical in nature, though.

As Jeshibu says, Aether seems to be tied to supernatural things. I'd suggest that Garret's eye picks up images from Aetherical imprints, and somehow (mystic energies) plugs it into Garret's optic nerve.

I've suggested in past that the elemental energies in the Thief setting propogates and is transmitted through this medium - when enough collects (as it tends to in particularly receptive areas), elemental crystals coalesce out of the aetherical energies.

here's a question: If you had the option between one of your regular eyes and the mechanical eye like Garrett's, which would you choose?
I would take the mechanical one hands down. My left eye sucks horribly.

My regular eye, that would hurt so much to get your eye pulled out and have to rehook it up to a mechanical one. I think when Victoria took out Garrett's eye that hurts more than what I'm talking about but Garrett can take pain, well he fainted after, lol.
