I'm amazed that no one picked up the following(they only apply to T3, some may be considered spoiler-ish):
Well, maybe it's because Thief 3 wasn't yet released in 2002.

Here's one of the flaws in Garrett's design, way back in Cragscleft whenever he released someone from their cell, they would immedietly(sp) run for the nearest guard. Why would anyone whose been released go for a guard in the same prison? Is Garrett really the greater of the two evils?

besides a mechanical eye, garrett has a mechanical arm too, that tells him if an opponent will drop when he strikes with a melee
and in thief 2, garrett has a Throat Clearer (TM) that lets him clear his throat everytime he wants to strike with his sword
oh yeah he has some really super metal boots by Nike 1755 that go clip clop clip clop on any surface (except grass and carpet). we blame you Nike :tsktsk:

Stomach of Instant Digestion: Digests Garrett's food instantaneously, so he never gets full.
Detector of Valuable Materials: Can tell exactly how much loot is in a level. However, it seems to be unhelpful in locating said valuables.
Gravity-Resistant Arrows: Negates the effects of gravity on fire and gas arrows. However, no other sort of gravity-resistant arrow seems to be available at this time. Garrett may employ similar technology when using Slowfall Potions.
Crawling-Resistant Garments: Can easily crouch, but seems to be unable to lie flat against the ground even when dying.
Stomach of Wound-Bandaging: Can seal up even sword or arrow wounds if he eats a certain type of fruit.
Self-Damaging Gas Mask: Will not be knocked out by gas arrows or gas mines, but will take damage from them whereas enemies do not.
Weapons of Locational Indifference: Can hit guards in the forehead with an arrow but not kill them, can slash them in the neck with a sword but not behead them, and can knock them out by hitting them in the arm with a blunt object. (Or would this be an enemy power?)
Water of Selective Dryness: Will hit torches and douse them, but can be shot at a guard's head and the guard won't care.
Moss of Invisibility: Can sprinkle elaborate carpets, marble floors, and metal grating with moss, yet guards don't notice it even when it wasn't there seconds before. This is further evidenced by Garrett's ability to shoot moss in a guard's face without the guard blinking an eye.
Gauntlets of Stealthy Door-Opening: Can open doors without guards becoming suspicious, no matter how much they creak or how well the door was supposed to be locked.
Amulet of Hallucinations: Garrett uses this to induce hallucinations in guards and servants in order to prevent them from noticing loot vanishing before their eyes. The loot appears to them to still be there until Garrett finishes his mission. However, this item's power seems to be inadequate for hiding banners, dead or unconscious bodies, or Garrett himself. This item also appears to be nonfunctional against certain Hammerites.
Amulet of Difficulty-Appropriate Greed: Changes the amount loot Garrett desires based on the difficulty level. In extreme cases, he may even need different amounts to pay the rent, get supplies, etc., depending on the difficulty.
Lungs of Silent Breathing: Allows Garrett to gasp and wheeze loudly while mantling onto ledges without alerting nearby enemies.
Talisman of Amnesia: Forces enemies to forget about any recent suspicious events in case of an emergency.
Mind of Selective Greed: Garrett will take a tiny stack of copper coins, but he has no use for a regular goblet or a bottle of cheap wine even though he could probably sell them for more than the tiny pile of coins is worth. We all know he wouldn't have any trouble carrying them.
Cloak of Item-Concealing: Doesn't seem to be any more noticable in the dark even when carrying large crates or bodies.
Some bad names, I know. :erg:

Actually, I thought they were so happy to be out of their cell, they were making a run for it. They were stupid enough to run right into the nearst guard post, unfortunatly.

Selective monetary need: If Garret says he needs a certain amount of rent to cover rent, or food, bribes, or other nesscities, he will never actually end up spending stolen loot on such things, as it will all be available to buy equipment for the next mission.
Perishable money: Money goes bad if Garret doesn't spend it right after he obtains it. Obviously this is due to the poor quality of metal-working in the thief universe, forcing him to spend all his money on the next "Job".
Escaping the Reaper: If Garret loses all his health just after completing all his objectives, he may escape, despite not being able to walk. Soon after, he will be completely healed, as if nothing happened.
*Not sure if this has been done before*
Eye of Wonder: Hammer Technology is amazing, in the fact that a mechnical eye can easily be popped in and out of an empty eye socket and work perfectly, despite not being connected to any optical nerves or muscles. No rubbing or friction is caused on the surronding tissue, and no lubrication is needed.
Quick Clotting: Garrett has the amazing ability to quickly clot any wound, no matter how serious, to keep him from bleeding to death. Even Losing an eye, which would seriously endanger most people from continued blood loss if nothing else, is little more then a inconvience to garret. Sure, it hurts like hell, and he's pissed about it, but it's not like he has to worry about bleeding to death from his eye socket.

His "Universal translator" that allows him to understand the language of fishmen that haven't seen the surface for thousands of years, but to him, speak english plus a couple clicks.
Not to mention the Precuser Documents, which were written thousands of years ago.
Either that or the language Garret speaks hasn't changed in that span of time.

I can't believe that everyone has overlooked Martha, his loot-carrying mule, and Sam the monkey, who helps him take all that stuff up and down walls and ropes. Why does the role of animals always get forgotten? :(

Not only the never-get-wet clothing and cloak, but the never-get-smelly clothing and cloak. Garrett and run around in the sewers for HOURS, come out bone dry, and you never hear the guards say "My God!!! What is that horrible stench!?!?"
But they do. I've had several NPCs say "(sniff)
what is that
smell?!"
One thing I'd like to add to the list if it hasn't been added yet:
Garrett's unique shoes: they make a noise so distinctive that everyone around can pick up the sound of Garrett's clumsy step as something to be suspicious about even if in a hallway full of people pacing around and humming to themselves. Even the sound of machinery doesn't dampen the sound of these shoes.
