Well, even Gordon Freeman had the ability to lug around some eight- or nine-hundred pounds of equipment. I'm envisioning some kind of an invisible wagon arrangement, although how you'd get that up a ladder I'm not sure.

But what about the abilities Garrett has, that other FPS protagonists don't? I'm thinking here about the AMAZING ABILITY to jump or climb over a 3-foot obstruction. Other FPS characters encounter waist-high walls and say, "Damn. I'll have to walk six miles of corridors to get over there." Granted, Garrett the Thief is constitutionally incapable of doing it quietly, but damn it, he gets the job done.

Garrett also has an ancient power that some call directional hearing, enabling him to discern the origin point of a sound, and establish its distance and trajectory.

However, with greater power comes greater responsibility. Garret's disabled enemies, regrettably, do not magically disappear, and must be concealed. But that's a small price to pay for the ability to lean forward at the ankles without being seen, as far as I'm concerned...

He also has limited clairvoyance -- after all, he knows that there were four secret areas in a given mission, yet he only found two...

What about the ability to be really rather short yet still pass for a novice Hammerite without being frowned at by the guards, measured and then kicked out?

The ability talk to himself out loud in a positively stentorian tone of voice without guards a yard away hearing him. Methinks many of his secret powers come from the fact that Garrett is mildly deranged; he talks to himself so much it's unnerving.
Also, the ability to drag 100 lbs weights attached to his ankles around without them scraping on the floor. Whenever he has to jump into the water, though, he detaches them without looking at them, puts on a sort of antigravity pack (again, without seeing it), and dives several hundred feet without taking a single point of damage. Try it in the Bonehoard, if you don't believe me. It's incredibly fun.
Add to that his cast-iron ability to suppress sneezes or farts, no matter where or when. It's unnerving to not hear so much as his tummy growling.

Garrett has a magical bag of endless holding. How else can he carry around several tons of iron and steel at Soulforge? Most people couldn't lift one steel plate that size and carry it, much less 15+ plates.

He never runs in to anything! When I sneak around in the dark, it's always "Bonk! Owww! My toe, my toe!" I wish I could do that...

ohohohhohohoh another one:
- magic frob-o-vision glasses or something so that relevant things "highlight" so he knows what he can frob. :P
- the spinning 3D mental compass
BTW, we used to have conversations like these all the times "back in the day" (
(speaking in toothless gumming grandpa voice: "I rememba when...") Before there was Thief 2, before there was Thief Gold, before DromEd even was released, we useta talk about stuff like this all the time. I kinda miss it... and I'm glad the "newer" members seem to appreciate it.

The esoteric ability to
lean forwards and around corners!
How nice it is that Garrett can look over the edge of a cliff without falling off
