I just got a production look on the 'Sweeney Todd' movie and noticed many of the sets and locations look just like Garrett's world, at least in the city and the garish oppulence areas.
Garrett's world seems to be a mixture of feudal rennaisance mixed with mid to late 19th century industrial age.
The world depicted in this film is obviously Victorian (at least as far the costumes), but when you see the sewer areas, the dimly lit streets, shadowy corners, city rooftops, and some mechanical contrivances, you will also notice striking resemblances to Garrett's world; Almost as if these some of these sets and locations were ripped straight from the game.
So one take on the theme for this movie musical, I would say is definitely 'Steampunk', and I myself, look forward to seeing it, but it will be hard for me not to think that Garrett could be lurking in that dark corner of a street or ballroom, or swimming in the grunge of that sewer pool, or hopping across those city rooftops, probably thinking on how strangely everyone is dressed. Other than that, I think he would know how to comfortably rob this world blind.
Just don't steal and eat the steak and kidney pie, it might taste kind of soapy. :laff:

You inspired me to have a look at the (
http://www.sweeneytoddmovie.com/index.html?view=video/trailers/trailer1) trailer. 2 things stood out. Johnny Depp with 3 gears (I'll nominate him now to play Garrett), and a wonderful view across the rooftops that made me itch to get the rope arrows out. There were some lovely murky scenes as well that would make great fm settings. I see theres a programme on the making of the film on KABC and KNBC today, or maybe it was yesterday - can never remember the time zone thing.

I find it quite hard these days when I've been doing a lot of 'Thiefing', not to view everything from the point of view of convenient shadows and beams and entry points. :)

Edward Scissorhands is back! AND THIS TIME HE'S REALLY DOING THE BARBER THING.

Yeah, that last shot across the rooftops was very cool.
Looks like the typical strange Johnny Depp/Tim Burton flick, should be good.

I saw the trailer when it debuted some months ago. I am a bit weary of the Burton/Depp/Victorian stuff so it's very unlikely that I'll be seeing this one. Maybe I am just still too disappointed over The Corpse Bride.

My assistant pointed out just yesterday that he (Depp) looks in fact a little like Gorman Truart. I think that would be a nice cast, too.

I prefer Rickman as Truart - he's an excellent Mr Bad Guy.
Have to say I've only seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and some Pirate type films so haven't really had a chance to get bored yet. Depp likes the Fast Show, that's good enough for me.
