And this is why you don't get to talk about Bioshock's story. Gears of War's dialogue makes Joss Whedon's dialogue look clever.
Anyone who says the above has either never played Gears 2, is deliberately choosing to base his opinion on the few bad apples that ARE poorly written, or is just really, really hypercritical. I had a bone to pick with some of Gears 1's dialog (they didn't have a writer that time around. Just Cliff "thinks he's entitled to write" Blezinski), but Gears 2 had me fully entertained, and I noted specifically liking the flavor of dialog. There are most certainly moments of cheese, but they by FAR do not outweigh the good this time around. (my opinion)
dethtoll and Evaunit, as Jackablade mentioned, you seem not only like unpleasable goons on the topic, but look more interested in shining down some absolute, infallible belief that all non-Oscar-worthy dialog must automatically suck, just because there are one or two unforgivable lines that you can point out. (which I don't even agree with in this case. The "10 shitloads" line works fine in the game)

I'm sorry for being spoiled by games with writing that doesn't offend me on a fundamental level.
Dude, I like a good plot and dialog as much as the next games-are-art-fag, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy other types of entertainment too. Like with movies - I'm not comparing Predator to Schindler's List, but I did enjoy watching both. Different types of films, meant to be approached differently. Zygoptera's right, you're probably taking this thing too seriously when it's not meant to be.
I don't know, if this GoW2 ever comes to PC I
might just consider buying it.

I loved the game because I took it for exactly what it was meant to be - pure fun. No real thinking required. You don't need to form complex strategies or put any serious thought into understanding the story. It's the kind of game that you invite friends over for, or put on your headset and play some co-op or multiplayer together over Live for a fun couple hours.
In that regard, it works amazingly, assuming you don't have an elitist stick up your ass. Sure, it appeals more to the casual gaming crowd - the ones who worship Halo 3 and Guitar Hero (not that I have anything against GH) as the greatest games in existance - but it works well enough that really anyone can enjoy it. Deus Ex or Thief this is not, but that's alright.
I can't really give a score because I haven't tried all the multiplayer modes or maps, but the co-op campaign and Horde mode have kept me and some friends busy for almost a week now, which to me makes it worth it.

But how does it rate on homoeroticism?

You know, I haven't played Gears, and not really sure I want to, but most of TTLG wet their pants over Dead Space and I DID play that one, and well, the writing was pretty fucking contrived and primitive at best.

I'm sure Dom and Marcus's unspoken love with be a key plot line in Gears 3.
As for the writing, don't go into Gears looking for award winning dialogue. At the same time though, it's not bad. Sharper than Gears 1 but it doesn't try to be anything more than that.

Homoeroticism: 8- Muscles and testosterone are in bulk, but faces are still ugly as a can of beans, preventing this game from reaching 9 or 10.
Heteroeroticism: 7- At least they fixed Anya's face, so it's no longer mistaken for that of a rodent.

I'm not going to share my opinions about who I think has the better opinion, or offer my psycological profile of the users on TTLG...
BUT! the whole point of these mini review threads were so that people could write reviews and others who were thinking of buying the game could read them free from the TTLG brand of flaming back and forth.
There isn't supposed to be discussion in this thread. if you have a review write it. Otherwise shut your mouth.

Yes, that was the idea originally, and what we did with the Dead Space thread... but, as mentioned in the original post, I decided to welcome open discussion this time, because it didn't take long for the Dead Space thread to slip into the abyss (due to lack of posting).
