A discussion is fine. A pissing contest (especially a couple of month long one) isn't.

You know, I haven't played Gears, and not really sure I want to, but most of TTLG wet their pants over Dead Space and I DID play that one, and well, the writing was pretty fucking contrived and primitive at best.
I don't recall any of those who "wet their pants over Dead Space" say the writing was anything better than functional. Most, myself included, would agree that is was contrived and primitive.
On topic, I am looking forward to playing GoW2. It's good cheesy fun and I enjoy it the same way I can still enjoy certain dumb action movies eg "Under Siege". I don't quite think it's as knowing as Aja thinks it is, I have no doubt CliffyB takes most of this shit seriously (as the recent New Yorker profile of him seems to support), but I am pretty sure that some people of the team are having a bit of a laugh at it all.

I honestly thought Gears was one of the most satisfying game experiences that I've had yet on the 360. It achieved everything it set out to, yeah the storyline and dialogue was terrible, but the game mechanics were brilliant, so too the level design. It was a fucking fun game to play, and given that it really did bring a lot of freshness to what is a fairly stale genre, I don't see what the huge issue is.

Homoeroticism: 8- Muscles and testosterone are in bulk, but faces are still ugly as a can of beans, preventing this game from reaching 9 or 10.
Heteroeroticism: 7- At least they fixed Anya's face, so it's no longer mistaken for that of a rodent.
See, the fact that you would rate those two even remotely close to each other means that it fails. Where's the gratuitous, oily arm-wrestling? Why doesn't Marcus suck on a black cigar while looking pointedly at the Cole train? Epic should take a page out of Valve's book, and realize that they'd always be better off if they copied Predator.
