GeForce2 problems.. - by Airbag_Victim

Hello, this'd be my first post on this board. Love the games though, so it's right up my alley. Anyway, I have a really hard time getting this thing to work well on my GeForce 2. I get terrible framerates, and whenever I jump in water, it the water blinks on and off and really gives off a nauteating strobe effect. Even with all of the patches installed. Can anyone give me some advice? This game used to work like a dream on my Voodoo3. I know, I know...Glide.. dammit.

Get the latest single player patch, most GeForce players get improvement from it.

Yup, it's all patched up and everything... Hmm.. guess I'll just have to wait until the PS2 version comes out.

Any other system information? What drivers do you have installed for your Geforce 2? (
http://www.geforcefaq.com/faq.cgi#sw:gam:deusex:corrupt) This part of the (
http://www.geforcefaq.com/faq.cgi) Geforce FAQ gives details of some earlier versions causing graphical corruptions. Try the Geforce FAQ for a range of card and BIOS tweaks that may help you in your situation. You can get the latest Detonator 3 drivers for your card at (
http://www.reactorcritical.com/) Reactor Critical.
The other thing that helped my framerates in Deus Ex was to install the latest AGP drivers for my motherboard chipset (VIA in my case). This not only sent framerates skyrocketing but also reduced noticeable in-game "stutter".
Have you tried turning off Detail textures/32 bit mode? Have you tried running in Open GL mode to see if that makes a difference?
Hope some of this lot helps.

Yeah, Thanks! Well, I have 310 RAM, but my processor could be better (Celeron II), but I'm able to run the newest games like Tribes 2 and Max Payne quite well though. I happen to have a PCI Ge Force, because my motherboard only has PCI slots. Do you know where I could find drivers for that?
Thanks again.

I'm also wondering where I could find that AGP chipset driver that you mentioned, but for PCI versions though.

Okay, first of all the Detonator 3 drivers are
not specific to PCI or AGP cards. If you have a Geforce card you can use them. Check the (
http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=drivers) driver download section of the NVidia website for more details. This website only has the 12.41 (
http://www.microsoft.com/hwtest/default.asp) WHQL certified version or the uncertified version. I tend to find the uncertified versions a little better (this includes any beta drivers leaked by NVidia or others to many sites) because they allow you to tweak things a little bit more (clock speeds, fiddling with "hidden" Direct 3D options etc.) - Microsoft locks all these out on its WHQL drivers.
Obviously, a PCI card is going to run slower than the AGP equivalent but there's no reason you shouldn't get acceptable frame rates for Deus Ex. You might have to compromise and switch off those Detail textures or lower the resolution though. The water blinking on and off thing sounds like a driver incompatibility or software problem though so you really should upgrade your drivers. Have you got the latest version of DirectX as well?
The VIA chipset is what my motherboard is based on. The easiest way to find out what yours is based on is to look in the motherboard manual (assuming you have it). Then its a question of going to their website and seeing what they have on offer. You could always try the website of your motherboard manufacturer as well. Be careful to make sure any updates you are downloading are for your exact board because if not you could screw things up. Also, motherboard manufacturer websites mainly offer BIOS updates available to download. I would
NOT recommend flashing your BIOS just because of a problem with Deus Ex. ;) I'm afraid I can't be any more specific because I don't know the details of your mobo.
Hope that's helpful.

THANK YOU!!!! Here's how my search went (long winded, unecessary message warning). I spent the entire day looking into the info you gave me. I didn't have my motherboard's manual, so I went to my computer manufacturer's website. They sort of gave vague information saying that it was made up of the Intel 280 chipset. I couldn't find info that said it was the chipset of my exact model computer, but it was the only lead I had. So, I search all day for it, and every download link I find is broken. I finally found one which luckily contained the newest files that not even intel.com (or whatevever the site was called) had. I downloaded it, skeptical that it still might not even be the right patch for my hardware. I loaded up a few games that ran well, but had a few framerate issues in certain areas, and got an identical performance. So, I'm thinking that Deus Ex won't be any different. I load that up, cross my fingers after it's done installing, because sometimes I just get an error message and I can't even enter the game (when that happens I have to reformat my hardrive if I ever want to play it again) and miraculously it ran. The framerate stuttered a bit when the game first started, but I guess maybe that was just the area first loading up, because it ran wonderfully after that. The final test: I jump into the water, and it stays put. No blinking. So, the game runs better than it ever has on my GeForce2, and thankya!

Great! Glad it worked for you.
