How would people feel about a Theif + Silent Hill genre mix?
Funny thing is I just looked up Silent Hill and read up on it, and watched all the vids on Youtube. I was reminded on how elements of RoO fit the Silent Hill "vibe"...

Thief + Silent Hill = The Cradle

that wouldn't make sense considering silent hill is a much more modern-time game, and has guns and sh*t. Seriously i dont see how you could do that equation Thief + silent hill would = a strange and messed up game with guns.
Thief and silent hill are in the same genre aren't they? or at least, they are both under action/adventure i would think.

Which "The Cradle" are you talking about?

Apparently you haven't played Deadly Shadows, Terry, or else you'd surely know! :D
sneaksie: I don't think he was necessarily suggesting a modern setting with guns, just a Thief mission which achieves the atmosphere of Silent Hill, and maybe even brings in AI and story elements from the SH series, but still has a Thief context. I think it could be done and would be fantastic if done well, although it really requires numerous new SH-style AI. I've actually considered doing this before myself.
As for genre, you're thinking too general. SH is survival horror, Thief is stealth-oriented steampunk. You could certainly make a steampunk survival horror mission; the only things that might be mutually exclusive between the two games are "stealth" vs. "survival horror", since most survival horror games require you to mow down hordes of critters. But even that's debatable, as you could always allow the player to survive by being stealthy (without discouraging the combat path either)...
So are you really thinking of making another T2 mission, Terry?

WELL.... I don't know if they can be considered the same genre. Silent Hill is 3rd person shooter with a "Horror" theme and Thief is 1st person sneaker with a modified Urban "Fantasy".
Both support combat, but Silent Hill require you to fight Bosses, and Thief you have to rob Bosses. In both cases there is a blur between science and magic. Often the games would appear to merge the two.

I noticed that Silent Hill seemed very linear.

I'm not allow to say much, if I do they are going to come and take my other kidney... Well, that isn't exactly true. They will remove my liver. Okay okay okay! I'll be honest... I am not thinking of making another T2 mission. This topic already showed me more than I wanted to know. It is very funny how life portrays art and vice-versa. Remember when I was talking about those two missions I was going to make Chimney Rock and Asylum. After I read that pdf, I was stunned. It sounded very similar to my planned missions. Except I planned on 12 ghosts and it looks like they had 9 ghosts. The numbers, 3, 5, 7, 9, 12 are all popular "mystic" numbers.
I was suprised that Thief3 would have what I call a "time-slip". How did the engine transition to the alternate time?

If you're talking about going into the past while in The Cradle, they basically put a green filter over the camera, and swapped out AI. It was triggered by picking up one of the belongings of the former inhabitants.

It would just filter the cam? Follow by teleporting all the AIs after a trigger and keep the same map and toggle the door locks? Did any textures change? If you dropped something, would it still be there after the time-slip? Why all the silly questions? Basically I want to make sure it doesn't look like anything that resembles another concept because I never knew about an application that markets the same concept...
So time-slips appear in Call of Cthulhu, Silent Hill, and The Cradle... Can anyone else think of any off hand? Thanks Yandros, you rock!
