Give 'em all copies of TF2.
If I'm not mistaken, the German version of
TF2 replaces all the blood and bodyparts with rubber ducks, springs and the like. :cheeky:

Here we go again:rolleyes:
How about they work on their gun laws and something that actually might prevent people from committing acts of violence instead of blaming it on something trivial as games. Games seem to be a popular scapegoat for diverting attention to their own shortcomings and problems for most groups/parties.
While they're at it they can also ban plays(some of those Greek tragedies are beyond the R rating) *sarcasm*. And most of those politicians are probably old uptight conservative prudes who haven't even touched a game in their life. Which reminds me of a similar issue we have in Australia.
Unlike most of the world, we don't have an R rating for games. To get that rating there the Attorney-Generals of all the states have to say yes but unfortunately some old geezer(namely the Attorney-General of South Australia, Michael Atkinson) who thinks he knows what games are about(the most advanced thing he plays is Wii Sports) says No because he thinks that all the sex, violence, drugs etc. are a bad influence on our children.
Which makes no sense since with an R rating parents won't be confused with what to get for their kids(and anyway I've been exposed to plenty of "filth" as a child and I turned out alright).
I think Atkinson is exaggerating and when faced with statistics he says they've been rigged.
Well anyway to cut a rant short, people like that who are misinformed and just plain idiotic piss me off to no end:mad:

GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, GAMES WITH GUNS KILL PEOPLE!
SubJeff on 9/6/2009 at 16:31
Well he did play games and then go shooting stuff guys. Come on, you've got see that there might be a correlation. If someone spends all day on a hobby for months and months and then goes and shoots stuff up it must be related. In fact it doesn't need to be a hobby, just something they do all the time, like breathing air - they should ban that too. And for themselves first. What a bunch of horsecrap this is.

Personally, I can't get a gun because I'd be killed by the guy selling them illegally and I'm not going to carry and axe or rat poison on me just to get some ultra 3d graphics fx with great textures and full anti-aliasing because ---insert generic shooting game here--- just doesn't have enough bloom.
But seriously, they really need to fix the illegal gun purchase. (and I'm not talking about B-4-3 , . , . style purchase)
belboz on 10/6/2009 at 03:19
actually its bullets that kill people, you dont really need a gun to fire some.
Its more likely that it the bullies at his school that caused him to go there and shoot people, if they punished the bullies when they are supposed to then you wouldn't get this in the first place. I mean some bullies are psycologically sick in the head, the worst bully at my school was deranged, he's dead now, he pinched someones car and decided to destroy it by driving it into a tree with low branches, one of the low branches went through the windscreen of the car and through the middle of his head.

I'm like everyone else here finding it unfortunate how politicians exaggerate the purported bad influences of games, especially when they're more focused on winning political points than dealing seriously with violence in society.
But part of me actually hides a little hope that games aren't quite as impotent as their defenders are so quick to claim. Sometimes I wish gaming people wouldn't be quite so eager to insist that it's all just mindless fun. I'd like to think some games might actually have the potential to influence people, like powerful art and music can; not towards violence of course, but can get them roused to some end. I don't like the implication that it's all just mindless fun with no real point, and doesn't make a lick of difference to how we live our lives, and that's the way we like it. That may be how the majority of games actually are, but a guy's got to have a vision of how things could be.

Games might be a factor, but they're only one among many.
What the fuck?
If anyone is susceptible to copying their favorite violent video game in real life, then they're totally nuts from the getgo. The factor is something much, much deeper. Not fucking peanuts like video games.

It makes me laugh how so many people have a problem with sexual content in games, but it's ok to blast enemies into little chunks of meat in said games.

At least in Germany that seems to be much less of an issue, though. There have been a couple of games where the US edition was censored for sexual content (
Giants: Citizen Kabuto comes to mind) but not in Europe/Germany, whereas German versions of games are often censored for violence, e.g. having soldiers in the
Command & Conquer titles changed into androids. One of the funniest examples of this was
Half-Life, where scientists, if shot often enough, would sit on the ground and shake their heads sadly. :D
