One of the funniest examples of this was
Half-Life, where scientists, if shot often enough, would sit on the ground and shake their heads sadly. :D
Ahaha, "just make it go away..."

At least in Germany that seems to be much less of an issue, though. There have been a couple of games where the US edition was censored for sexual content (
Giants: Citizen Kabuto comes to mind) but not in Europe/Germany, whereas German versions of games are often censored for violence, e.g. having soldiers in the
Command & Conquer titles changed into androids. One of the funniest examples of this was
Half-Life, where scientists, if shot often enough, would sit on the ground and shake their heads sadly. :D

I think we are all attacking the wrong issue.
We are arguing ourselves blue in face over whether banning games will have any effect.
What we SHOULD be arguing about is why the government (of any country) thinks they have the right to tell people which entertainment products they can and can't use. As an individualist, I believe that (since playing these games doesn't directly harm others), the government should NOT have the ability to tell people which games they can't play.

Doesn't sound like much of a safe to me.

His father had the main artillery locked up but kept a handgun in the sleeping room and some hundred bullets somewhere else and the dude took those.

Hooray for nanny-state bullshit! Why don't they just ban violent movies, comics and books while they're at it?
Koki on 11/6/2009 at 19:15
That's so nazi.
oh-HO

Eh, let's see.
Sure, violent video games can be (and often are) fun. Banning them en masse is retarded, and only shows the hypocrisy of the lawmakers. It's also one dubious distinction to make; where does acceptable violence begin? Usually when laws are based on morals and personal tastes, hilarity ensues. And I, for one, wouldn't want to miss hunting terrorrists or killing zombified crews of spaceships.
On the other hand, there is a certain line that needs to be drawn. I mean, there are rape simulators available. If that doesn't make someone squirm, they may be ought to pay a visit to a shrink. The world would have also been better off without certain (numerous?) "kill all the [insert racial minority]" games. And so on, there is probably a more complete list about sick games but I'm better off not knowing most of 'em.
Letting everyone roam free and do what they want rarely makes freedom, and tends to end with anarchy. Anyone saying otherwise should just visit a completely unmoderated forum. :erg: But such carpet-ban ideas are just the same idiotic, only the complete opposite.
Then again, the chance of finding the balance between dictatorship and anarchy are slim to none. And if I had to choose, anarchy over dictatorship any time of the day.

Can you name any rape simulators that aren't Japanese hentai games?
