Germany will phase out nuclear power by 2022... - by Koki

From the article:
Quote:
Germany wants to shut all nuclear reactors by 2022, Chancellor Angela Merkel's ruling coalition declared on Monday,
in a policy reversal drawn up in a rush after the Fukushima disaster in Japan.
Apparently responding to something in just over two and a half months qualifies as "rushing" over there.

So where are they going to get their electricity from? Will they be able to build enough wind farms without the lengthy planning permission problems we have had here in the UK, will they build more fossil fuel burning stations, or will they just import their electricity from other countries and hence shift the problem elsewhere?

This is no pie-in-the-sky Hippie crap. The Germans have realised that green tech is the industry of the future. They have realised that energy self sufficiency is the key to security. They have realised that reliance on external sources of power is the road to ruin. They have realised that there is money to be made in green tech because there is an industrial future for green tech and Germany is ace at industry.
They have relaised that, just like with petroleum technology, governments can force innovation through legislation, regulation and taxation and that all the whinging and bitching and wailing of "it can't be done!" is just bullshit because if you can create entire economies based on sucking black goop out of the ground you can do the same with sunlight, wind, tides, efficiencies and things people haven't even thought of yet because so much money and mind has been poured into fossil fuels we haven't had enough to dedicate to what the fuck we will do when the last barrel of dinosaur piss is sucked out of the ground.
Mark my words, if the other industrial nations don't share Germany's revelation soon, by 2025 we will all be speaking German and Hitler will have won after all!
Do you want that?
I thought not...

^ That basically is the plan. And I´m looking forward to see you guys laboring with English-German dictionaries to post on German TTLG (we might keep the name for the sake of old times).

Actually it is quite rushed. Considering the events went like
Law for ban of nuclear power by 2022 implemented by Socialist/Green coalition in 2002 --> Power providers
Conservative/Liberal coalition wins election 2009, ban of nuclear power cancelled --> Power providers :cheeky:
March 2011: Fukushima
Also March 2011: Conservative/Liberal coalition enacts an moratorium for old nuclear power plants
Also March 2011: Despite the moratorium Conservative/Liberal coalition massively looses votes in regional and state elections
Conservative/Liberal party
Green party :thumb::cheeky:
April 2011: Conservative/Liberal coalition finds out that a ban of nuclear power seems to be "the will of the people"
Conservative/Liberal coalition re-enacts ban of nuclear power and invents a tax on used up fuel elements --> Power suppliers :o:mad::eww:
An excellent example of our power as voters. Yay to democracy.

Now that the cat is out of the bag we might as well start to mix in a few German words here and there to give our future inferiors a head start into their new first language.
So first of all it´s "HEIL Hitler", not "Hi Hitler". Even though "Hi Hitler" seems to make sense since everybody is waving their hands while shouting it.

Do you have any idea how many wind farms you'd need to replace just
one nuclear power plant?
They will have to switch to envrionmentaly-unfriendly coal(buy it from us, kthxplz) or get electricity from France... which will be nuclear-made anyway. lolz, stupid greenpeace fucks. :D

The discussion isn't just about replacing nuclear power plants Atomkraftwerke but to alter the use Gebrauch of energy altogether. And there are also those who say that these Atomkraftwerke are not even necessary notwendig to provide the nation with sufficient ausreichend energy. Of course you never know for sure unless you can do these calculations Berechnungen yourself.

The percentage of nuclear power in total decreased from 27,7% to 22,1% between 1990 and 2007, total electricity generation in Germany amounting to around 640 TWh. So we are talking about roughly 160 TWh to be replaced by gas, coal, wind and water power, waste and biomass incineration and solar power.
Should be doable, considering the fact that 7 of the 17 nuclear power plants in Germany are currently shut down. I don´t know if that is being compensated by import from other producers.
Of course all of this comes with redesign of the current power network enabling it to buffer variability in power input (sunshine, wind). Also there will be a change in the way we use our energy. For example, a dynamic price system for energy could be implemented where the energy price is calculated in realtime from the actual power input: sun shines --> more power input --> price decrease --> my underwear is dried at a lower price if I chose to use the laundry dryer at this timepoint.
Oh yeah: Kraftwerk, Autobahn, Angst, Donaudampfschifffahrtskapitänsmützenknopfherstellergattin
