I have ben looking at creating my own custom AIs. I have some T2 AIs in .3ds format, which I can load into Anim8or (v 0.65), and I thought it would be easy to move around a few points to make something new.
The first problem was that I could not zoom in enough to see what I was doing. Is there a limit to the magnification? I got around that by scaling the model, but that is not ideal, as it will be tricky shrinking it down to the original size. Is here some thing that indicates size?
So then I selected a point... But could not move it (arrow button to select model, node button for node edit mode, other arrow button to select point, crossed arrows for move. I tried both mouse buttons, I tried with the X, Y and Z buttons on and off. Nothing happened. Any idea why?
I also tried reskinning AIs. How can I tell what bit of the image file goes on what bit of the model? Is it just trial and error? Does anyone have a good strategy worked out?

The scale is always a problem. Been using Anim8or and 3ds max 8. The objects always turn up huge in dromed. You can always scale down but then other issues arise, such as the magnification thingy and it's still difficult to decide the size. You can always resize in dromed, though.
more practice required me thinks:D

I set my grid in3dmax to 'generic scale' instead of US or Metric. Then one =one. i make a box say, 6 feet tall (just 6 not feet really) and place it next to my obj to check size, of course I make the box whatever size the obj should be.
I'm sure in Anim8tor you could do the same, make the box the same size as your AI before you scale, hide the box until you need to check scale again.
In Max you can right click on scale button and type in a 1 in front of the size. so if your obj is 100% and the size you want, then make it 1100%, huge but easy to work with, do the oppposite to shrink it again.
But make sure you have the scale tool set to center/world so your object ends up in the same spot when done (important with AI's/ joints.) Or scale all joints with AI. Anim8tor should have a similar function.
Nice Cannon Nielson, looks like something I made years ago for a ... Oh, still can't say...
