Hmm, this would probably be the appropriate thread for this, but I'm not sure how frequently it is checked... Doesn't really matter all that much as I will probably figure this out on my own, but every time I try to use 3ds2bin on a .3ds file I have converted from .obj, it hangs for like 20 minutes before it finishes. It complains in the .log file, something about being unable to find the texture image. And when I load the resulting .bin into Dromed, it makes Dromed crash.
I have a feeling that I am either using models with too many polygons in them, or that I am missing something obvious with the texturing. Like where to put it when converting or something.

The texture has to be in the txt16 file in your thief folder (if you like me hav the 3ds2bin program in the thief folder) or 3ds2bin can´t finde it and about Dromed crashing this tendes to be way to many polygones on the object, the key is to use as few polys as possible, insted of a 12 side cylinder use a 8 sidede. :p LOW POLY

Those were more or less the things I figured, although I don't have 3ds2bin in my editor directory. I have it in a directory of its own. I will probably spend a few hours today tinkering with various polygon counts and directory structures/file placements. I really want to throw a few screenshots up, but I am being stubborn about it until I add some objects so I can really deck out some of my environment.
Not that there is much environment yet. I tend to be one of those people who builds a little, and then tries to work out every little bump in the section of road just laid before adding more road. Kind of counterproductive in a way I suppose. I can't just place road, and then more road. I have to add the paint, and the signs, and the trees, and the pedestrians and traffic, etc... Maybe some roadkill, lol.
I guess I could throw a screenshot or two of some of my objects in here...

i an take a look at an obj you're having probs with.
I would recommend getting Accutrans to convert obj to 3ds, it does a really good job, and is freeware. You models may be way to complex if it takes 20 minutes.
generally T2 ai were 1200 polys tops, but i've done a little over 2000 no prob.
objs can go this high too, but over that isn't really needed anyway. Most objs don't go much over 200. stuff like bottles are probably 64 ish, maybe less.

I appreciate the offer. I'm probably going to tinker a bit first, and if I still am having issues, I might take you up on that. I might try that Accutrans program you mention too.
Those numbers you list... I'm pretty sure I am topping those by way too much, so i'm off to reduce polygon counts.
