I made an object with partially transparent water and it works fine. How are you setting the tranparency? Through 3ds -> bin I assume...

I set it by editing the .e file Did you do the same? Maybe it's how i made the water part. I'll have a look sometime.
Oh yes, i see why. The "Bridge" command had left 2 gaping holes on each side of the water part which is why you could see through the water and the model! I will get those holes filled and update the zip file.

When I made my water I created a shape (in my case I needed a cylinder) and deleted the lower points, then gave it a RGB colour.
I use 3ds->bin by Nameless Voice, and that's where I set the tranparency, but I think that's essentially the same as editing the e file.

3ds->bin is a great program. Go get it if you don't have it. It speeds up the final process of creating the model to almost nothing.

how do i edit the e file to set a transparency?
Mortal Monkey on 4/7/2004 at 18:42
You can set the transparency directly in the material properties in anim8or, and they get exported with the file. It's about the only thing that does, save for the texture/color.

I've never been able to get that working, even with all the VB files. Doesn't seem to work with Win 98SE :(
BTW, I got the model sorted. I'm zipping it up right now.
Done! Please refresh your browser to see the updated piccie a few posts above.
All i did was create a micro thin mesh and placed it inside the object.

strange, it worked the first time i used it then it stopped working for me, i'll have to try again later.

Here are the settings for the "trof" object Otto...
MATERIALS{
1,"material02",PHONG,TMAP "BLOUT_8.gif",0,TRANSP 80;
2,"material01",PHONG,TMAP "WD1128.gif",0,TRANSP 0;
}
You have to use high numbers to set the transparency. A lower number than 80 will make the texture less transparent. From 100 > 0
[EDIT] Strike that, reverse it! (Sorry) A lower number from 100 will give it more transparency! [/EDIT]

strange, maybe i have to redo the uv coordinates on my object
