Yeah, that's the method I've adopted too. As for what you said about texturing, it went right over my head. But it sounds similar to what sluggs is about to publish a tut on - detaching the faces to texture and then reattaching them. Hopefully I can follow his tut! :laff:

can we run through the tutorial with something a bit more complicated, i'm stumped on how i would build a complicated item using this approach.

The tut would be too long. I think i've got enough to do!!! :p

okay, really just want to see two shots in action, a complicated side such as yandros' table and its top/bottom. i'll see if i can't figure it out and write a tutorial.

It basically involves rotating the object so the face(s) you want to texture are in the front view before detaching them for texturing, one at a time. I hope you suss it out soon and do ask for help again. I want to help you out as much as i can but i can't keep making tuts as it's alot of work. ;)
Also keep browsing the web for Anim8or tuts. You should find something that will help you. :D

Q: Instead of detaching, texturing, and then deleting the whole object and copying the textured face to make a new one, can I detach, texture and then just reattach the face where it was before?
Sluggs on 21/9/2004 at 11:00
Yes, of course you can. We all have our own ways of doing things. Just make sure that the face is facing the right way for texturing. If you want to detach the top texture on say a crate, then goto the top view and select the "Y" axis for texturing in the texture parameters. I find it best to rotate the object so all the faces that i will detach are in the front view and i will then use the "Z" axis.

Cool... so is Edit > Merge Faces the command to use to reattach it?

Hey Yandros:
You give me hope. Your stuff looks really cool for first attempts. I am finishing a mission and when I am done, I am going to take a crack at amimator. The one fear is that I will become as addicted to that as I am to Dromed. As it is, I can't get away from Dromed.

You mean this entire thread hadn't? :wot:
