This thread sure got me to check out anim8or. Thanks sluggs, for this thread. :thumb:
P.S. cars are now done. :cheeky: Trucks, that's another story...

Give me some time. After the darn truck, I going to do just that. :ebil:
Hmmm... better tinker with that burrick-riding AI tutorial... :erm:

Yes, of course you can. We all have our own ways of doing things. Just make sure that the face is facing the right way for texturing. If you want to detach the top texture on say a crate, then goto the top view and select the "Y" axis for texturing in the texture parameters. I find it best to rotate the object so all the faces that i will detach are in the front view and i will then use the "Z" axis.
In Max you can just rag/select a bunch of faces, in the table case I would look at it from side view, darg a selection across the side polys to be detached (selecting all 4 sides at once) and appling a box map to them.
Mapping types:
planar-maps flat, just like putting a sticker on.
box-puts a sticker on like above, but from all six sides at once, easy way to texture a crate (or four sides of a detached one- which is what the table sides would be).
Spherical-wrapping the mesh around a ball.
Cylindrical-wrapping a label around a coke can, usually has a setting for mapping the top and bottom too(capping)

You can do that in Anim8or too. :ebil: As for UV Mapping programs, they're not much use to me becuase i'm crap with graphics and i can't create my own textures for the parts of the object. I usually use the original Thief textures and do all my texturing in Anim8or.

Burrick riding tutorial? Where?
GORT on 22/9/2004 at 20:30
Rats! I can't remember which thread it was. :tsktsk:
In that thread, they were talking about how to make Garrett and the guards hold a torch.
Yandros on 23/9/2004 at 03:42
Dark Arrow had a burrick rider in A Guard Called Benny, and also had guards that take torches off the wall when searching and replace them when done (although that's not been a mission yet to my knowledge), so he should be able to explain it or point to that thread.
