Well, its either get used to them, or not play the FM's. Or mildly freak out everytime you see them. :p I'd rather get used to them, and move on. I won't let a little or big thing like a spider stop me from playing an FM. To each his/her own, of course. There are far worse creature infested games.
Introduce some form of a mod, go for it.

Just remembering the fact that it's simply another AI does help as well I guess, also with zombies and puppets.
