Last night I watched the movie (
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076786/) Suspiria (by Dario Argento) for the first time. I absolutely loved it. Partly because the set designs looked like they were done by the same guy who apparently does the set designs in my very weird and frustrating but intriguing dreams that I'm always having at night. :wot:
But on top of that, it really had some Thiefy vibes to it. Most especially I think it was because of the music. The movie's intensity and reliance on shadows and colors kept making me think of missions in Thief (particularly Constantine's Mansion). An important scene in the movie involves listening to footsteps to find a secret hidden place. The finale of the movie feels exactly like one of those famously exciting "holy crap, I'm just barely hidden in the shadows of this alcove and a big suspicious guard is searching everywhere for me, and some creepy spirit seems to be whispering in my ear" moments. There is also a very strong Hitchcock influence to it cinematically which I always find fascinating.
I really enjoyed it (despite it's obvious 70ishness) and haven't been able to stop thinking about it. Anyways, just thought I'd let you all know of another movie out there that might make you think of our beloved Thief... although it might just be my own weird thinking that makes this connection. I hope you all get to see this movie if you get the chance.
