Yes, yes, I know this has been covered a billion times before. I've done a search, I've tried things suggested but have hit a wall.
I want the wav files from the first thief game so I can amuse myself by listening to them, assign them as computer sounds, etc and have tried every tool and 'trick' I have found on these boards but none of them work.
I have the downloadable vs of Thief Gold (the one you download as a demo, then buy for 25 bucks through that trymedia or whatever it is) and while the game runs just fine, there is no dromed included with it, and every time I try to extract the sound files I get a 'file is corrupt' , or it can't find the files at all, or it just sits there, or with the 'Thief Edit' tool from the circle I get a message saying "ZipMSGXX.res is probably not linked to the executable Missing String ID is: 11036"
Whatever that means.
I'm getting rather frustrated, to say the least.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get the contents of this file? Or even download it at this point? Or do I need to keep trying to find a disc copy of the game? (Which I DO want to do anyway, since this trymedia stuff only lets you reinstall three times  , and I have a habit of uninstalling games when I'm not actively using them. Which means they are likely to get uninstalled/reinstalled a lot more than just three times. :weird: )

Yes. I downloaded it six different times from two different places, and tried to extract all the files into different locations. My thief folder, a folder of its own, the desktop and the results are all the same. That stupid error.
It does, however, open T2 files just fine.

Is the file, 'snd.crf', also corrupt if you open it with other unzip programs?
Instead of installing all the time, you could also back up the thief directory and restore it anytime you want. Modify 'install.cfg' if you plan to put it in another location.
