Hi guys. I just fired up Thief Gold with a brand new Windows 7 and the TG version of TafferPatcher. It works fine, and the widescreen actually works which is cool because I've never had widescreen in Thief before. I decided to go for a "no quicksaves" run for a change. But every time I'm in a tight spot with AIs around, I don't feel comfortable about knocking any of them out. I got through Bafford's, Cragscleft and Assassins with no saves, no alerts and also no knockouts.
But has anyone actually managed to ghost Thieves Guild with no saves? I don't even want to think about the Mages Towers at this point. I hate Thieves Guild, and I got pretty far before I finally was caught. (Even got past the paranoid over-sensitive restaurant chef right at the start). And how do you even get the key from the room where the bracelet is? There's that fat taffer standing in the room looking straight at it at all times. It's way too improbable to breeze through so many consecutive scenarios that require that much luck.
Oh, and the rules that I apply to my ghosting are that I can deal no damage and not get detected. And I also try not to steal keys that I don't need, and not to leave much evidence like tools, or broken things. And hammer-toss kill exploits are not permitted. :) The amount of loot I get is irrelevant as long as I meet the goals. Also, spiders, who seem to have a bugged detection field, and who can't file police reports... It doesn't really matter if you run past them and they hiss at you a little bit. So my ghosting isn't so strict. It's more fun. As long as humans never know that someone was there, it's alright. And of course, on Expert.
Maybe I should just punch myself in the face and stop trying to mix zero saves with ghosting. Isn't it something like:
-Exploration requires Mr. Sandman
-No saves requires adaptive strategy
-Ghosting requires quicksaves

Iron-manning and ghosting? Your skills and patience and available gaming time must be maxxed out! It will be quite an achievement. Awesome.

So I want to know, what happens if you successfully ghost the entire game without saving, but then get noticed by the very last guard in the game? Do you tell anybody or just keep that as your little secret?
Honestly, I can't get past saving just by habit, in case a bug or something undoes an hour of gameplay. Although I try and reload as little as possible.

I recently got back to the T2 after playing the dark mod for a nice long while. Fired up the OMs, set difficulty to expert and jesus christ why is this game so hard suddenly
Won't be ghosting it this time around, I think. :erg:
More on topic, I have a kind of horrible quicksave/load habit I'm trying to get rid of, but it's damn near a reflex now.

Last night I went on a no-save round in the Mages Towers, and in the last room of the fire tower where you have to cross the narrow metal bridge, I paused, and when I resumed, I had my fingers on the wrong keys, sidestepped by accident, dipped my toe in the lava and died. Just like that. Then before the screen faded to black I quickly pressed Ctrl-Alt-Shift-End and decided that I had successfully completed the mission.

I QS a lot because I have a knack for getting stuck in tight places. I like to explore and climb out of the map.
I ghost quite a bit but if I get busted, so be it. I try to iron man as best I can.

I had to quicksave in The Sword. In the end of the little big world when you have to use rope arrows to climb out of the room. After the first time of dying I used a quicksave and I still managed to kill myself with the rope physics bug ten times in a row.
