Hey there, don't know if this exists, but I wanted to make a thread about weird and gimmicky missions. FMs that have very different objectives, settings or gimmicks to the already varied kind you can commonly find. Some clarifications:
Obviously, very different things apply to this thread, and that's okay. Some examples I'm thinking of would be stuff like Space Thief (self-explanatory). But lose of tools, on the other hand, although it is a "gimmick" is common enough that I think shouldn't apply. A different example: a mission which barely but does fit in, I think, would be that nicked mission which has a pirate and tropical setting (there are pirates in thief's universe, but I think the setting is different enough). Another could be that one FM where the objective is for you to cook a meal. (On a realted question, has anyone tried to convert Thief into an assassin's game?) So I think it should have a wide enough margin for it to be encompassing without loosing the specificity of the thread.
I'll edit the post and add links to the FMs later with your contributions, along with a short description and, if it's a big enough thread, in categories.

There is a lot of unique missions. First JIS missions. JIS liked crazy design, fighting and puzzles. In his missions are really crazy constructions that doesn't make any sense like construction made from pipes. The most popular of his work and also very unique would be Elevator Mission campaign. There are some missions that tries to recreate games. Captain of the Guard is pretty much tower defense game. There is Snowball Fight, even chess game make it's appearance. There is mission where you need to guess under what cup is hidden coin. Another unique mission is Gussie's Dream - it's all about climbing towers. There is a lot of hidden switches and hard platforming. There are also Cardia's missions. His missions are different - some are "kill them all" missions, there are exploration missions without any enemies and there are puzzle missions. Also he likes to force player to do some really hard platforming (tough strafe jumps) or very precise shooting from far away (3 Distinct Adventures Mission 2). There is Rebellion of the Builder 1 - very hard campaign with very unique setups of enemies and traps. Also there are Crap Contest entries - each mission has it's own definition of bad design, which is very interesting.
Also I would like to mention Nightmares campaign that I play right now. It's a 5 mission campaign, each mission has been created by different person and their objective was to create the hardest missions. So far I played only 2 missions, but both of them had very different definition of hard difficulty.
Edit: Another mission - Great Tree. It's a climbing mission where you can shoot rope arrow into almost everything. It's very frustrating, but also very satisfying mission.

marbleman, those sound great but are a little behind the treshold of what I'm thinking, you know? Regardless I'll play them and add them, maybe even add a smaller category of "not gimmicky missions but featuring some gimmick to the gameplay". What I mean is more encompassing.
Galaer, I had forgotten about crap contest, that certainly fits the criteria although an unmentioned rule for this thread I think should be that it's an actual fun and/or interesting mission lol. Will be checking all those out and adding them.
Anyone else knows of more?

Temple of the Tides is an excellent mission that's almost entirely based around puzzle-solving and features a set of objects that can be rotated to very precise angles.
Speaking of puzzle missions, there's also Mind Master, where you just have to solve a "combination password" puzzle (press a combination of switches, and the game lets you know how many switches are correct, but not which ones).
A Guard Called Benny is a straight-up role reversal: you play as a guard and must patrol the manor to find and thwart a thief attempting to break in.
Ten Little Taffers is a Thief-style adaptation of Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None. You can play as Garrett, which incorporates the usual stealth on top of the murder mystery, but you can also play as one of the guests trying to avoid their fate, or even play as the murderer and slaughter everyone else.

Fables of a Penitent Thief fits into at least one of the categories.

How is that question is related? Did the meal have to be poisoned?

Felt that having to murder someone was a big enough departure from the usual thief formula.
Thanks for the suggestions, will start working on the edit tomorrow. Meanwhile I'm going to try A Guard Called Benny.
EDIT: Some more missions listed here, some that have already been mentioned here or on that other thread, but many others (like A Guard Called Benny) aren't. Another good place to start:

Not trying to toot my own horn at all, but I made a contest mission a while back called What've You Found Little Fly, where the intention was to mimic an old school adventure game. There's even an objective in it to cook a meal for something, if that takes your fancy.

> The Rebellion of the Builder 2 - Just think about the short flight mission or the secret minecraft-themed joke mission in there
> Batman demo - play as Batman
> This FM haz No Sense - fight against a Meme outbreak
> COSAS Mission X - be part of an agent team infiltration
> Captain of the Guard - a working minigame like "plants vs zombies"
