I'm not a fan of the term "gimmicky," but I think my mission Heist and Hilbert's Highrise Hotel has a number of unusual gameplay mechanics that (to my knowledge) have never been used in other Thief FMs.
using openable windows to form a bridge
a double helix spiral staircase
assorted novel lock mechanisms: long versus short button frobs; rotating concentric dials; rotating cube faces; false alarm button
glasses to navigate paintings
Reading constellations in the sky to get game-relevant info
It's certainly not your typical thief fare, but if you enjoy puzzle solving and exploration, if might scratch that itch. More novel puzzle ideas are coming in my upcoming missions (still a ways off).
