Okay, here's a question that may sound goofy...
In the Thief_icon1.zip file on TTLG, there are ten icons of glyphs from Thief. Can someone tell me what each of them represents? Hammerites, Pagans, Keepers, etc.? I've been curious about this for ages, and now I have a situation where such knowledge might actually have a (very slight) practical purpose.

Not 10 at all, but 100 or more.
Hm-m. I'm interesting this question the same way... But dont know what it means, so I collect all of the glyphs using in Thief series.. Maybe someone can help us answer this question. They are the full copy from the game. Not handmade, just photoshop filters to reduse size of a file.
Here it is (

Maybe not all, because i don't include 8 glyphs reversed ones from Thief1, because I'm lazy. :bored:

But certain glyphs represent specific items or groups, do they not? For instance, the Pagans, the Hammerites, the Keepers - there's a glyph for each of those factions. What are they?

Well, trying to translate these glyphs is simmilar to trying to translate real-world ancient text. Without some sort of dual language text that is in both the original language (in this case the glyphs) and another language, hopefully something that can be understood (in this case English). As it is, we only know the ones that they told us outright what they were, and only what they are on their own. Though, I do think that the glyphs that Caudica reads are shown in the one cutscene in Thief 2. Thw whole "My brow is bronze" or whatever one (sorry, I can't remember what was really said). I think that is the best lead we have, if any one is willing to analyze it. Unless someone has already. ANd if not, this might be the next big breakthrough in understanding the Thief universe since the "cutscene globe" for the mapping project.

Today we can say only 15 glyphs what they mean, using the official sites flash drawing and 10 using in Thief3, where we can see what they mean.
It's like the autor of Lord of the Rings dreamed about it's own language, hre same way we have this letters.
By drawing it similar to "krito-mikensk line letter A"
But sounds.. "glyphs that Caudica reads are shown in the one cutscene in Thief 2...the best lead we have" I think the same!
But we have two different system of drawing, as in Japan. And i think in Thief3 letters was not such accuretly drawing, as in Thief2, a painter just draw line down, draw line right, draw line top, draw line left and always draw little circle. Very unoriginal. But it is what we have.

Right. Okay then.
Let's cut to the chase here. Is there a glyph that represents Thief (or "a thief") directly, or something similar? I'm going to do an etching on my pc case window, and right now it's a tossup between my clan insignia, and a Thief glyph. (Or perhaps even a couple.) But I'd like to use something that's actually as representative of the game and the central character as possible. I was considering one of the T3 Keeper glyphs, but... I'd like something a little closer to the point.

Look, he has a hat. Hee hee.
There is no predetermined meaning behind the glyphs. They were never specifically applied to anything until Thief 3, in which they changed from not just a language of prophecy to rune-like powers.
From the ones used in T3, we could attach some basic meanings to them, but some of them have been used for a variety of different things. Especially the door-like glyph with the circle in the centre. That general appears to signify Keeper passages, although its also used as an 'initiation' glyph... which could make sense I suppose, if it means 'passage'.
The glyphs left around the Kurshok citadel we could assume are some sort of tracking mark or sign of a Keeper's presence.
The sign that marks each of the new missions could have a variety of meanings, signifying a site of importance or way of entry.
Apart from that, any other significance would be fan-lore. So in short answer to your question, no there isn't a Thief glyph. The pagan symbol isn't a glyph, although it looks a lot like one.
There is a hammer symbol evident in T3 that looks a lot like a glyph... it could be a glyph, or just a hammerite icon.

Using the convient page Logan linked too, I printed out and numbered all 100 glyps going from the top left and across, starting back at the left for each new line. Using this system and a quick analysis of the prophecy reading cutscene i managed to number out two lines, got the translation for one, but not the other because Gamall starts to speak after Garrett and the Keepers talk, which sadly is a lot louder than Gamall's voice.
25, 20, 19, 24 = I plead the wind to sweep us away
3, 21, 18, 23 = The mastering wind, I am so tired (this is the one that has Garrett and the Keepers talk over, can anyone catch what Gamall really says?)
