I have been wandering around in the game as I normally do in these types of games. The is a room in the prison that has a sleeping Goblin. To the right of him is a bookcase? In the case are 2 pieces of paper and a key. I am thinking the papers are the authorization and the other the license. I don't know what the key is for yet. I use stealth to enter the room. I get the 2 papers then the goblin awakes and kills me. I am tired of dying to this Dude. Do I need these papers and key?
Also In the prison cells I try to free the guy but always get caught and die. Is there a way to a void dying and completing the 2 missions?

Well, killing the goblins worked for me. :cheeky:
You do need one of the notes from the sleeping goblin room. You also need to free that one imprisoned goblin though there maybe an alternate way of getting your authorization. The key might be important, I'm not far enough along to know if the help I got from Greu is important.
Alternately, you can continue exploring into the human outpost and return to these things later.
I am curious, is it at all possible to play the game as a mage or stealth character? Seems like you run into too many situations that require all out brute force for things to work.

I'm playing a mage character and I'd say it works pretty well once you get some meaty offensive spells (fireball in particular). The problem isn't running out of mana, but the limited number of pre-cast spells you can have (though the rune-scribing system is a great novelty, I find it too clumsy as it fails to recognise my patterns too often).
I found that killing the goblins instead of getting the documents worked just as fine.
To get past the closed gate where you need to show papers to the goblins, just attack them and they'll open it, charging.
I did find one thing odd though: whenever I was forced to use brute force, I found myself doing more damage with my bare fists than with a weapon! I still don't understand why.

I have done about all I can in the human outpost. I got several swords, repaired both my armor and weapons. Killed some pigs and chickens and cooked the food. Made a pie with some wine. Made some bread. Talked to (Orinith?) can't remember his name now. Went to the tavern. Beofre it makes any sense to try and go further I thought I needed the items I missed in the prison.
I think I may try to fight with my fists then and see how long it takes to die. Stealth doesn't seem to help me very much at this point. I only have about 2171 ex pts. That move to 4000 points seems to be a long one when you could use just a bit of help in the early stages. Those big goblins just don't seem to die.

I also read on the official forums that you can bribe the big goblins to let you thru, thus bypassing the need for the form, but it didn't say how much it'd cost, etc.

I later went back and killed the bastards. :cheeky:
I'm finding out that killing creatures doesn't really seem to boost your XP points as much as completing quest items. In fact, I levelled up twice completing some of the troll related tasks. I think I'm level 3 now.
The whole stealth/sneak thing doesn't seem viable. Mage perahps, warrior definitely, but sneaking I'm not so sure.
Forsythe on 13/11/2002 at 18:37
Btw, Mage is definitely viable... especially for a mage/warrior crossbreed like my char. It usually takes me a few swipes and lots of dodging and chasing to kill a rat man, but it just takes one fireball at lvl7. Likewise, I swiped at the 1st (maybe only? dunno) giant worm for a loooooong time with no result, but 3 fireballs toasted him.

I couldn't beleive how much damage I could do with my fists. i have completely taken out the whole of the goblin prison now. I took very little damage compared to the physical beating and death I took trying to use both the dagger and sword. Thanks for pointing that out.

Seems like you run into too many situations that require all out brute force for things to work. coincidently i am half mage half thief and a little fighter. i agree that you do fight alot, especially in situations where a gate closes behind you and you are face to face with the "boss". I cannot imagine playing a pure mage. the spells are too slow to cast and hard to memorize. but they are powerful. my fireball kills most normal enemies in 1 hit.
also i have much stealth and it works well. with stealth, you can generally choose how to engage the enemy. u still have to fight, but you can sneak around and wait for the right moment, and often backstab (which doesnt kill them but gives you a nice first hit.)if you use the invisibility spell you can slip past multiple guards and get to highly secure areas. then sneak around in the shadows. or snipe people from the shadow and they dont find u right away; u can usually kill someone before they even reach you.
for example by sneaking i was able to steal the goblin lords stuff without waking him. oh yeah and you can pickpocket lots of people. get their house keys, etc.

Thanks for pointing that out. did u charge up your weapon? you hav eto hold down the action key till the diamond glows white (usually 3 seconds). this is you maximum power force. It would take ages longer to kill them with baby taps.
also maybe u didnt give enough points to CC (to fight well) or armor (to live long enough to do damage.
also be sure to give time to heal. take it one room at a time, then eat or wait for your health to rise.
