I managed to level up to a 9th level mage before the the shield of ancients mission, and lemme tell you, those lvl 9 fireballs are some serious stuff. Just 1 will toast a Ylsied with 0 damage to yourself. Mmmm, Rhaa Vitae is also fun...almost unfair, that one. :)
Just one major thing for a pure mage to remember is to carry plenty of mana potions, you're totally helpless without it.
