Why?

the cradle is one of the few things in a game that i found generally creepy/scary. mostly the front part.
i've said before that i'm not easily scared; there's a part in half-life 2: episode 1 where you're in a parking garage filled with zombies (dawn of the dead remake, anyone?) someone told me they found that scary, even compared to ravenholm (which DID scare me a little.) but not me. me? i was giggling maniacally while blowing up zombie soldiers with their own grenades.
i think i have an unhealthy obsession with zombies.
as for the rest of the game, i didn't find myself scared by the catacombs below the hammer church; nor was i really bothered by the mild creepshow that was the pagan sanctuary. no, you know what creeped me out the most? those damned statues.

I believe Eric Brosius himself did the voices for the Statues?

Yeh the statues were pretty damn scary, but I found the really frightening thing was that you knew if they spotted you you were in a whole world of trouble. That massive one in gamall's lair really scared the crap out of me.
This may upset the randoms who have not played TDS:
I actually found those keeper assasins (I think that was the word) pretty creepy. The fact that they started out right behind you, and followed you around. And it sounded like they could track you down if you stayed in the one spot for too long. But when you realised you could quite easily sneak by them like any other regular enemy it was a bit of an anticlimax.
I'm mildly surprised at people finding the statues scary. Sure, they looked menacing, but the second they opened their mouth. crush...crush...crush...crush...crush...kill...kill...kill.kill....crush crush
Shut...up.
Seemed to go against the subtlety of Thief.

That's also my thought. The statues were certainly a danger, but not really scary.

Well yeh but so have enemies in past games. Big metal robots that stomp about and shoot canonballs at you? Seems pretty subtle to me.

I believe that position is held by Onimous Cowl.

One thing i didnt like... was the fact that i wasnt able to really dialogue with npc's. For example... Marla was asking for an intimate colloquy. He didnt have a mouth?...
Those moments inside the store.... what an impotence!...
