Don't you think it would be a bit strange if the established base of fans rolled over and played dead, and let the new fans waltz right in?
That would have been the case if:
1) Thief I and II sucked.
2) Thief III rocked.
Of course, neither of those things are true. Things have gotten much better it seems. The older fans were a lot less tolerant a year or two ago. It is truly Looking Glass' fault for making the first two games so goddamned good!

The argument is so wanted it will never fade, would it?.....:(
Every single point stated has been stated so many times it has become clear to everyone, and still it goes on with the same enthusiasm.
Pity:(
It's just that it's hard for them to accept what Thief 3 is/isn't. Hence the saying: denial is the first path to acceptance.

My point exactly!
Why not letting them do it? And the new fans - why not accept the fact that TDS is far beyound the terms of perfection? Like I did. And despite the fact that I just love TDS, I'll never agree with the statement that the game is alright and only has a very few and very insignificant flaws.
But both sides are just making drama out of nothing instead of simply admitting and discussing these flaws. And the tytle of this thread just proves I'm right...
"They... spoiled it completely"?? - what kind of a justified announcement is that? How do you expect new fans to react at that? Before expressing one's mind, one has to realise that there is a thin line between freespeaking and insulting, which was obviously not one of the realizations occured to the author of this thread.
And, if you look through Thief threads patiently, you'll discover, (with a huge amount of surprise, I believe), that TDS gets much more blames than it deserves, altogether with its loyal fans. They may be blinded, but it's a natural reaction to threads like this one... You could at least name it more politely. Thing is a shame for neither of moderators even want to cos' you think it's normal - glorifying T1 and T2 and throwing mud at TDS....

Not harder than for you to realize that TDS is even there...

Huh?? I don't understand what you just meant. T:DS is Thief 3, it is the third game of the Thief trilogy.

Hmmm, I'm really not seeing where the author 'Vincent_21' insulted anyone personally. If you read the title of the thread and review his post, you simply get a heartfelt post on why he felt extremely let down by Ion Storm and TDS. Later posts may have veered off into personal insults, but the original post did no such thing. He simply shared his thoughts on what the original games meant to him and how he felt the third game did not live up their standard. I happen to agree.
I and many others had followed the development of Thief 3 from the very beginning. Personally, when I found out who was making it, I had no doubt that it would be a fantastic sequel to the originals. Later, when the media silence was broken, people started to worry when screen shots and ingame movies made their way onto the internet. Things were looking very different than what we had been lead to believe. Invisible War was released and then we started to feel our blood run cold, the engine was severly crippled. Levels would be small, cramped and awfully unswimmable.
To set our fears at ease, Ion Storm allowed a brash young developer to act as a public relations spokesman of sorts. He went by the name of Faceless on the Ion Storm boards. Admitedly, he was good...and could turn the crowd around in bad times...but the truth was already out there.
So, you have to understand, this was a rather painful experience for those who have been with the series since the beginning. While it's not fair for anyone to say that 'your' love for TDS is dumb, it's equally unfair to deny those of us who have kept Thief alive all these years, our displeasure with the treatment of the final game in the series. We lobbied, we built fan missions...we did everything in our power to keep the series alive. In a sense, we feel that it belongs to us as much as it does to Eidos.....because the sheer volume of Fan Mission content far outweighs official content. Think about it, 3 games vs. over 400 fan missions for Thief 1 and 2. As is the case in many similar situations, I feel the core fans feel somewhat ignored and disregarded.

That's very well put New Horizon. :thumb: I do feel kinda sorry for Vincent for being verbally lambasted (which was unfair on him, because at the end of the day, it is freedom of speech), but you gotta admit.... The first half of this thread was bloody hilarious! :ebil: :cheeky:

;) Ahhh, it's just the lay of the land around here. People get along quite well for the most part. On a side note...I hope it's not innappropriate of me to say this, but you capture very well on film. Great smile too. :) I wish I were as photogenic.

EDIT ~ Yep, wow. You are beautiful! By the way, I am only serious about 5% of the time during my stay here. That 5%, as Vigil would say, is about Thief: The Dark Project. A wonderful piece. Dontcha think? :)
