I dunno, his posts seem to make about as much sense either way.

Oh, u mean Gammal?... But she is only a child!... when the concept of "woman" is evoked, the last thing i am gonna picture is a female child who had never felt the tepid, somewhat unexpected, liquid dropping throught her thighs, reaching her knees, till her tiny feet... staining the ground with the pool of the advent of womanhood... ...when long forgotten desires will be fiercely awaken... anxiety growing, eyes betraying reason, senseless, a funeral march for her childhood expectations!...
Disturbing...

i believe "splatterpunk" is the term for it. it's a phase; it'll go away after a few years. and you're forgetting the psych-horror of movies like silent hill or the ring.
I hope you are right. I prefer "torture porn", (Rob Zombie's movies, the Hills Have Eyes remake, Texas Chainsaw remake, Chaos especially, Hostel, Saw, etc.) because it clarifies the exploitation aspect to it. Another parallel with pornography is pushing the envelope, getting more and more hardcore, more brutal, more depravity, for no apparent reason other than we can. I'm not squeamish or a prude, but I see zero redeeming value in these movies.

Uhm we might understand you better if you didnt talk in riddles. What are you suggesting?
I dont think your suggestions of castles filled with corpses really fits the games, or would have been a better design decision. It might just SOUND like a good idea.
In terms of Thief Deadly Shadows, well that just sucked - it was a simplified, brutalised thief game that took more inspiration from Splinter Cell than thief and was designed for a much younger audience. At least thats where i stand.
But in terms of Thief 1 and Thief 2 - we are talking about, at least it is my position, some of the best games ever made. Given their contexts i cant think of many improvements. Certainly not large changes in direction.
The only improvements i can see are really to do with updating/expanding the concept, and making sure that vital feeling of insecurity/confusion is not lost in a new game because you can 'learn' the AI.
In Thief 1/2 i found i went through 2 stages - the initial confused, anxious stage where it felt like you were genuinely clinging to life in unfriendly circumstances - untill you learnt the sneaking system at which point - the thieving stage was entered, where you would aim for increasingly difficult personal goals and thieving missions.
While the strength of the game stood in the ease of this transition, i would like a modern thief game to keep the suspense up longer by being less predictable.
That and a few minor details is all i see as needing improvement. What do you see?

Yes, the last thief game was surely meant to a much younger audience. The plot, the dialogues, the way the story unfolded... the whole mood was thought to please early teens, i suppose.... or even children. I cant imagine how a great series like this one was degraded, so radically altered to fit the will of a preponderant group. The gist of the Dark Project was basically forgotten... and a change was evident. I am gonna be honest... i really enjoyed the first 2 levels of DS. I liked the design.... and specially the plot's exposure. The climax was reached on the second level.... a castle, somewhat medieval.... an architecture that, althought not as sumptuous as i would like it to be, suited the aura of thief..... an aura thats still a bit unexplained... the essence of thief is questinable, reaching a considerable amount of anachronisms.. the appearence seems so gothic and moral code and various aphorisms are very victorian.... guards with armours and helmets, resembling a regular Middle Age outfit.... and some women dressing themselves like in the early modern era period..
..but thats fine. A mixture of various styles is exalted. Look at todays metrossexuals, for example... they combined characteristcs in order to look better. Some of them typically female. The perfect image will be obtained by a fusion divergent, antagonized features. That also happened with this game... everything about it, thought not incoherent, was a dellusional creation....
...and i like it, we all do, i guess. Steampunk, isnt it?... well.... that was an imposition to conceive such a story. Where magic, unknown dark ciences were practiced... paganism is so medieval!... it reminds me of those times where whitchs were frequently calcined, in order to achieve purification by flames.... and remissed of all their obnoxious evil.... there is also the pantheism... and then the Builder!.... well... the builder was linked to early conceptions of religion, whose dominance was noticable centuries ago, even before the Middle Ages. The Dark Ages.... but those Hammers just seem to be put there, with no real effect on society's moral precepts. They want to influence... but how can they do that?.... Its clear that their dogmas are way to old fashioned to be introspected. The desired reflection would never appear.... social unit was already self known of an hedonistic lifesyle. They were so out of place there.... by centuries....
Eerie castles, carcasses.... were just an hipothetical view..... if, IF we wanted something sullen, morbid.... an horror that I thought to be credible, bearing in mind thief's universe. Victoria, Constantine.... eyes ripped out... demons, a dismaying portal which allowed beasts, hellish creatures to reach the face of Earth from the bowels of Hades....... isnt this apparently horrific?...
And alternatives?.... how numerous they are!.... really..... there's no need to hollow scares... or gratuit demonstrations of violence. If a rich game was aspired to be made, there were several ideas that could be exemplified in a production. There is no need for opulent approachs..... the key is just an ample view for detail. For example.... why werent we able so see, when looking throught an window, a neddlewoman, in her early twenties, paciently doing her labour?... sitted on a chair, head down, singing a lullaby.... not to her child, but to herself.... while patching some shirts?.... she then paused for instances, looking vaguely at the burning candle.... the only one there.... and when those big, melancholical and languid eyes gradually faded in vivacity and joy.... she would drop her task and, on her knees, recite prayers, not to the Builder.... but preferably to a female deity, whose comiseration wasnt neglected. With a rosary on her pale hands, the light decreasing in intensity.... and words as irracional as her spirit spoken all night, interrupted by her constant, heart-breaking sobbing.......

One of the funniest threads i must say.
I think (i hope) Vincent's age is no more than 14.
It's a pity that no female taffers commented Vincent's fantasies :wot:
