So, I just read the Eurogamer (
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/god-hand-retrospective) retrospective on God Hand.
And it's absofrigginlutely spot fucking
on.
They nailed what the game was about: it was about having fun. Having fun with the players, fun at their expense, whatever: the point was gleefully hilarious wacked-out FUN, and if you didn't get that, you either had a stick permanently wedged up your uptight ass, or were completely blind and deaf.
For heaven's sake, this was a game that had a special move called a 'Ball Buster', a guy in a gorilla suit, five gay technicolour midgets, a boss enemy who could turn you into a chihuaha, and a move that let you (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRMjaSUDPTw) spank the s@#! out of them. If that doesn't sell it, nothing else will.
I've never laughed harder while playing a game. Okay, I have, but that was only when it was one of my friends playing it instead. I guess there aren't many people here who've played it (or could appreciate how unselfconsciously batshit
insane it is), but if you find it on the cheap, give it a go. You probably won't be disappointed, but you will be confused, astounded, offended, and find yourself spontaneously erupting into laughter while playing it.
But you'll probably never finish it. Not because of the content, but most likely because, like the retrospective says, it's a fair game. But it loves to kick you in the balls.

The G4 review years ago made me play it. Wasn't quite what I expected...it was much better!

Best PS2 game ever. I completed it, like, three times in a row. Gotta try a hard playhrough sometime.

I'm a little ashamed to admit I read the IGN review, back when this came out, and ignored the title altogether. I really ought to give it a second look; after all, these guys did make my favourite PS2 game.

Get it! (If you can find it cheap.) It's certainly not as charming as Okami, but that was never the intention with this game. This one, it's all about pissing on convention, screwing with your mind, being fucking hilarious and acting outright bizarre, and usually has all of this happening at approximately the same time. It's fantastic.
suliman: how in fuck did you finish the game three times in a row? You must be some sort of beat-'em up god on the PS2 or something.

Well, not in one sitting of course:D
But God Hand isn't THAT hard once you get the hang of it. Abusing Yes Man Kablam+dodge cancel along with Chain Yanker and making sure you get two YMKs in whenever someone's dizzy can seriously help you out.
The big fights(=by number of enemies, not the boss fights) in the two final stages are always insane(that final battle before the tower oh god), but other than that I can usually do a stage on normal with <5 continues and beat most enemies on level 3 or level DIE.
There's really no serious method to it other than being careful(time isn't a factor in this game so you may as well take your time and pick off enemies one by one with the taunt whenever possible), abusing YMK and using moves you're comfortable with. You just have to presevere until you get in the zone and then it's you who's kicking the game's ass.
..running in circles when you're in trouble helps a lot, too:joke:

This game sounded interesting, but I have no fighting game skills, so there's no way I could progress in it, unfortunately:(
Aja on 25/9/2009 at 16:04
well we can't all be born with fighting game skills, so maybe you could develop yours

I could try, but it would take countless hours of bashing my head against the wall and I'm not sure I could do it well in the end - I have some fine motor control issues that seem to manifest themselves in anything requiring really price timing or button combinations.
Don't get me wrong, I'll pick up God Hand if I come across a copy cheap, I just don't expect to get very far in it - I have limited patience for replaying the same sequence over and over.
