the vastly superior plot
I know people like to quote the old "they designed the plot according to the levels" thing, but really, the characters in Thief 2 are at least as memorable as the original's, which, honestly, didn't have an especially coherent plot. In fact, huge portions of it consisted of ridiculous sidequests that exist mainly to showcase interesting new places. That, and on a micro level, the writing is still superb.
I'd still argue that Thief Gold is the better game, but not by a great deal.

I wanked to this game at the Opera House level.
More information than I wanted to know.:erg: Or should I say, that was more information than was needed.
Anyway, I got Thief Gold years ago from ebay, or amazon. Don't remember. I might have my receipt somewhere... Anyway, it came in the original jewel case with both discs and all the inserts, but no box.:) Sadly the only box I have for the thief games is from Thief 2: The Metal Age, which I bought on ebay in like the summer of 2001. Came in the nice trapezoidal box. I remember I would go down to the mailbox to check for it often.
But good for you, 5tephe. :) For those that are not aware, there's more to Gold than just 3 new missions. How about the fact that it comes with DromEd? :) Or that the missions are tweaked? (though, I honestly can't say I noticed drastic changes from TDP, but ever since I got Gold I have not played TDP anymore so I don't remember the changes.)

Looks like about 3 of us are now at The Mage Towers.
I just finished The Haunted Cathedral though. A great level with a greatly bleak atmosphere. When i got bored avoiding the zombies and Burricks, just shot 'em all xD. Well - burricks/spiders with swords, zombies with arrows. Anyway, i think i surpassed the level, which my brother could not. A few big buts though. I couldn't really figure out the passage way to Keepers library... Had to use the walkthrough on the last 3 missions :( (embarrased).
Being on topic - not really alot to say about Mages. Just started The Mage Towers. But i do expect the wishes to jump down from them after i get to each top :cheeky: (and i will!)

Jumping Down
Super spoiler that has nothing to do with the story or playing the game:
Well, you're going to be about three or four storeys below the tops of the towers, but if you can somehow stack objects to get up over the walled walkways outside, or use the old "key elevatoring" technique, you'll get a decent view but only if you only look straight down. Otherwise expect the game to crash from the scene complexity being too high. In DromEd you can see all five towers, but never in Game Mode.
:)

I must have spent weeks on that mission, it's one of the reasons that I don't like TG as much as T2. Hehe, I almost went mad trying to do the fire tower, damn mages.

Well i've nearly owned the ''Central Tower'', if you could call it like that. And neutralised the gardens. Basically i know where to go next, what i'm missing ect. I've got some great confidence, that i've checked everything out also because, that i ALREADY am missing only under 50 loot from the required loot (playing on expert ofcourse). I very much liked the library. The statues in that 1 room said some scary things. Scariest part being - they know my (character's) name! Well, when i'll be able, to play it again (now got an interruption), i guess i'll pwn more of it :D

I love the Mage Towers. It's my favorite. And, yes, I do sing while playing Song of the Caverns, but, I also still find myself singing about the cruel & carniverous Lady Valerius at odd times. :p:D

Pwnt The Mage Towers :> In other missions i was stuck for a week each (well, 90% blame on school, but now i have a free week :)), but this... in a day :) And i liked this mission better then most of the originals i played so far. The Fire and Air towers were starting to get on my nerve though (the hard ground + my tap/iron shoes...). And finally i needed no walkthroughs. Scored about 70 knockouts (1 in Airborne xD, the last one), didn't get one fire mage though. He was all in lava and i notified him, so i just avoided the poor sucker).
The greatest thing is - I finally collected ALL of the LOOT :cheeky: Found 2812 loot out of 2812, 20 out of 22 pickpocketed (wtf who did i miss?)
Now i don't unterstand. What the hell happened with 5tephe, that he had to restart the level all over again? O.o
Edit: Nvm, read his post now after playing the map - well, i didn't notice such glitch for myself thankfully. But really - don't you make any hard saves? I do that every 10 minutes (give or take). If you don't do so aswell. Sorry to say this, but i guess it serves you right xD.
P.S. The thing, that kept me going so goodly is the mysterious atmosphere of that... diffrent place - not so classic and not really haunted. Everything can be neutralised. The mission design was cool and this is the one map i actually never got lost in (and i almost have the entire map in my head).
