You know what, my first time through Gold, I did it Iron man style. Even the missions I'd never seen before (Guild,Mages,Operahouse) It gave a *real* sense of discovery and urgency to what you are doing there. In other words, no saving at all makes you really weigh the risks/consequences of your actions. At the end of opera, I had some crazy guard and archer chasing me, and I barely made it to the ending place, only a few health points left, but I made it! Its such a rush - I recommend playing not only the OMs that way, but try playing some of the new FMs like that - preferably ones that you haven't played before. You'd be amazed at the sense of immersion that comes from *NOT* saving your game(besides an obligatory "start at the beginning of this mission" in the OM's) and feeling like every choice you make really determines what happens after that, and dealing with consequences of poorly timed/executed actions - flashbombs become very valuable!
just my 2 cents(though that may have been about 3 or 4)

Oh you are so right. I actually when lose hp or waste something for nuthin, i sometimes continue the game and i am always suprised, how much faster i get further like that. I might actually try it at the Lost City. Or not... seems dangerous. Oh well.
Hope to hear from 5tephe soon :p, don't give up!

...Just got waylaid.
My work just laid off the other Project Manager, leaving only me, so suddenly I am the busiest man on earth.
Yes, I do hard save: that's all I do. Only, I don't do different versions of the saves - only one per level. And I make sure I am safe and secure when I do so (something about urgency and all that, only not so Iron Man.)
Well, this time I went through and saved at each strategic point - Library (after grabbing the specs), Water, Earth, Air... then in Fire, in case there was something wrong with that level.
And I didn't encounter any glitches this time through. Hooray!
I really liked this level. Sure, not spooky, and a little predictably regular, but then Mages will have their ordered little cloisters.
What I particularly liked was the concepts for each tower - those Fire Mages (walking through lava!) are just crazy! Like I say: predicatable, but just very enjoyable for the scenery and variety.
Now, on to the Lost City!
(Nice to have some fellow travellers, too! Hi there, Ghost & Thor02!)

Good to hear from you . I kinda messed up my installed Thief Gold, so i'll have to reinstall it lol. You gave me motivation to do that, thanks :p. Haven't played since i pwnt The Mage Towers, so i guess were in the same map again :cheeky:.
Cheers.

How far have you've gotten, 5tephe?
I finally got myself together again and played through the Song Caverns, but playing on expert couldn't find the Silver Flute. All other objectives are done. I owned the guards in a well guarded room (even had to use a flashbomb), but it wasn't there. And i've checked everywhere else...
Anyway i since i've practically done that mission by a 95%, i can say, that it was a good mission, but like many other, sometimes seemed tedious at times (but i guess that's because of other reasons) and annoying was the hard ground about everywhere. xD
Aww, but i don't want to be helped by walkthrough again... already used it in 3 missions.
Anyway i'd like to hear from your progress, if you haven't given up.

Jumping DownIn DromEd you can see all five towers, but never in Game Mode.
I seem to recall doing what you suggested while playing the Mage Towers level and the game never crashed for me. I was playing it on my old 233Mhz system, so being able to see most of the level at once slowed the game down to a crawl though. If I remember correctly, I did quite a bit of rooftop exploring.
As for getting the games;
I picked up Thief Gold and Thief 2 a few years ago from my local EB. Both were new and had a price of $10 on them. I bought both and they only charged me about $15. A couple years ago, I got a used copy of TDP for $2. This was before EB Games became Gamestop and got rid of their used computer games.

If you could ever repeat your feat and FRAPS it, I know several of us would be interested.

I'm still using Windows 98SE and the current version of Fraps won't run under it. Is there an older version that works under 98? Failing that, is there any other free software that will do the same thing?

I'm not sure what else will work, but if you can find Fraps 1.9D, and get it working...
Either that or take some choice screenshots.:p

OK. I don't have it installed right now, but I'll re-install it soon. I've never done it on this system though (1.8Ghz), only on my old one. I remember because the view was impressive, but whenever I moved the mouse, there was serious lag. My old system had a 3DFX Voodoo Banshee card in it, if that makes any difference.
