I'm suddenly having multiple alerts going off on my Avast for a 'Goldskip.exe' file in my Thief Gold install folder. It says its a medium threat of a Win32:Evo-gen [Susp].
Erm. . .??
Does anyone know anything about this file in Thief Gold? What is it, and why on earth would the AV suddenly be pitching a hissy fit over it? I do a scan on it and it says its not infected, but it keeps trying to throw it into the virus chest anyway. Is it a file I need or should I just let Avast have its way and isolate the file?

Create an exception, if you can. A lot of executables get flagged as viruses. I had an antivirus program that quarantined itself last August!

isn't goldskip.exe just some DRM remnant?

I'm pretty sure it is used to skip the Gold specific missions in Thief Gold.
IMHO it's better to patch with my GoldToDark :p

Really? Itself?! Weird creatures, these antivirus programs! Ok, I'll report it as a false-positive and create an exception. The thing DOES scan clean. Thank you. :) Hate it when they suddenly pop up with random files like that that were clean the previous day - and you haven't done anything that they should be infected. And if you don't even know what it is, you can't tell what to do. Thank you, jtr7!
Constance, Why would I want to make my TG drop all the gold content? I *liked* Thief Gold - and thought it expanded on the story. Why would I want it to roll back? Besides, if I did, I'd just have installed TDP anyway. . .since I have both. :) Not sure why I'd want to change it.

It's actually the opposite, it allows you to skip directly TO one of the Gold missions, for the players who had already played TDP.

OK, I guess my memory is even worse than I thought ^^'
Indeed, the GoldToDark patch won't help in that case, and you don't need it if you already have a working original TDP CD.

Yep. This happens sometimes. My husband saw a lot of it at work when he was doing security updates for LSU HSC. Kaspersky threw me an alert on something a few months ago, but I can't remember what it flagged, but it was something old. I reported it to them as a false positive, and they had it cleared up on the next update.
