How does something which wouldn't pass a Turing test have cognitive dissonance?

Well, Gabucino's doing a good job of making it possible.

Gone Home is just about perfect, a game that implies tacky supernatural drama but then delivers a far more grounded form of everyday drama that just about anyone can identify with. A good ghost story is fun, sure, but failed writers and deteriorating marriages actually happen and are both all the more devastating for their mundanity.
Despite the (expertly done) diary-like narration of the main plotline, Gone Home is also a game that recognizes that beyond a certain point in life the true manifestations and catalysts of drama tend to take innocuous physical form--abandoned writings, found receipts, telling photos, etc.--and by presenting a game made up almost entirely of these life story souvenirs, Gone Home forces the player to connect the dots and provide the otherwise implied drama. We are active participants in the story, and that's in part why Gone Home is still resonating with me far after I "beat" it.
I've easily paid far more for games that meant less to me.

Yeh, exactly, the threads of the story come together quite subtly, also I have a 15 yo daughter who is a tomboy and not at all interested in boys, so it kinda hit close to home. Anyway I'm still thinking about this game even couple days after playing it and thats not something that happens all that often.
Looking foward to more games like this.

Admit it, Gabucino, you're the one who threw a pipe through my front window tonight in an attempt to prove that your opinions are superior.
SubJeff on 21/8/2013 at 09:45
This really happen?
What the f?

Yeah, it was a heavy piece of pipe that funneled water from the bottom of the storm drain pipe away from the house. It is now in the hands of the local po-po as it was used to smash through our front window. I'm blaming Gambino or whatever his fucking name is.
Someone will point out to him that a run-by piping is not a valid form of debate, and he'll lament that no one works in his system and say 'lol' a lot while quoting lines from previous posts and leave it at that.

Agreed, not nearly as effective as the ol' "blaming an online contact for a real life incident" tactic.

It's hilarious you think I'm being serious. Congratulations, you've failed the Turing Test.
