Yeah, the custom stuff is pretty good. Their AR is above 100... But I can't remember the exact number. And each piece gives you CE Resist Frost 5%. If you wear a total set of that armor, you'll have CE Resist Frost 40%. That isn't really that good though... Even with a Nord that's 10% short of 100. And setting Bloodmoon aside, Frost attacks aren't widely used in the game.

Dwemer armor bites, when you come down to it; not counting Bloodmoon & Tribunal, the best Light armor is Glass, the best Medium is Orcish and the best Heavy is Daedric. I don't recall off the top of my head what the best is for Bloodmoon & Tribunal, I always had enchanted-everything by then.
Btw, if you have Tribunal, you can go to the smith in the west side of the city for custom glass, & adamantium [and maybe other] armor. If you have Bloodmoon, you can get custom wolf- and bear-skin armor from the armorer in the hut outside the Thirsk meadhall.
I think The Best Armour in Solisthiem is The Ice Armour or Stalrhim You Get While Doing the East Empire Missions.

The best medium armour in solistheim is not bearskin its Stalhrim or Ice Armour Just do a few missions for the east empire company in solistheim and you've got it (You only need 1 peice for a curass and 1 peice for greaves etc.)

I've tried most of the armor types, and I've settled on unarmored as my favorite. My prefered way of mitigating damage is always to avoid it altogether. There is no armor in the game that does you much good until your skill in it is quite high, so you're lugging around all that extra weight in your early "career" for what? Also, to compliment unarmored skill, developing the luck stat can help because it effects how often you get hit. Enchanting exquisite clothing with some constant effect fortify luck or chameleon will make you even harder to hit (and chameleon has other fun uses as well).
