I'm going to have to replace a hard drive on my main system right now, while I'm working on that computer at the moment-my question is, I have a dual core 2.7 AMD processor on that system with 4 gigs of ram, however my 512 meg 8400 nvidia card just doesn't have the steam to run Escape from Dark Athena very smoothly. I need to get a better card for that particular game but I'm short on funds for the moment-what is a good bargain replacement card that will do the job?

My GTX275 doesn't run it smooth either! Consider dropping $400-500 on a GX295, maybe that will do it. Me, I'm just going to wait until my next upgrade to play it...

Depends on the resolution. For 1680x1050 an Nvidia Geforce 8800GT/9800GT/GTS240 512MB should fit the bill nicely, they're all the same card so get which ever is cheapest. Else an ATI Radeon 4850 or 4870 are terrific choices, both cards are faster than the aforementioned Nvidia offerings and should be very cheap by now.

Runs fine on an 8800GT with all the details cranked except for Ambient Occlusion, which for some reason seems to cause all sorts of problems with the game.

Yeah, I also had good results with my 8800GT.

My HD 3850 plays it well (and smooth). The only slowdowns I get are CPU related.

I recently played Assault on Dark Athena and I thought it was okay.
It's good for 1 playthrough.

Yeah if you have already played the old Riddick game the game isn't even worth buying. The new parts are uninspired, and it hasn't really aged all that well.

I agree. I played it on the original Xbox, and then bought the PC ver. (it was only like $19 new) for the Director's Cut content. So, this would have been the 3rd time I bought basically the same game redone for a new gen. Tired of it.
