his FEAR 2 review contrasted against the reception of other cookie cutter console FPSes at Eurogamer
so do you think his review was incorrect in some way, or do you think the other eurogamer reviews were too forgiving, or are you upset that there isn't a single 'eurogamer line' on average FPSes?
only the first of those can really be laid at the door of the guy you're blaming and you don't seem to be saying that ...
*disclaimer: i have written for eurogamer, but only about parody jprg basketball titles

What about your highly inaccurate review of Wizball? That game was way harder than you make out.
"Quirky--but also confoundingly hard. Starting out was often a serious drag, and ensured there was much gnashing of teeth from players."
confoundingly isnt an extreme enough term to encompass the giddying difficulty of Wizball. Fuck Wizball, fuck it up its stupid arse

Oh, but what an alluring arse it is.
Ahem.

You don't know pain unless you've played the Amstrad version of Wizball, which didn't have scrolling and you had to throw yerself blindly into screen after screen of spiky things.
Which is a bit like the Amstrad version of Spindizzy, which also didn't have scrolling...

hey, I won two pulitzers for that wizball review
I stand by that sentence! It's really difficult at the start but once you've powered up to some degree it gets a lot easier (not EASY, but easier)
a version without scrolling seems ludicrous though

It's bad enough that sometimes those extras sphere thingies would get stuck behind scenery in a way that made it impossible to collect them. Wizball is one of my fondest and most frustrating gaming memories from the '80s.
And now I'll have the highscore list tune stuck in my head for the next 24 hours.

Honestly, it sometimes seemed like the vast majority of 8-bit games were built around a core of frustration - Short Circuit and Airwolf being two major offenders in my memory.
PigLick on 3/7/2009 at 01:35
just to clarify, I had an Amstrad, thereby explaining a lot of my rage problems.

Any guesses on whether Koki had a Speccy?
