Right, if you guys didn't like Morrowind, what possessed you to purchase the sequel? :erm:

I bought Morrowind, and I gave up a few hours in when I ran up to a guard post with a CRAZED MANIAC on my tail, only to have the guards stare blankly back at me as the maniac butchered me to death.
My Dad went out and bought Oblivion. He loves it to death but I couldn't stand it for more than a few hours as well. Fallout 3 (which he also bought), on the other hand, I enjoyed a great deal more.

BioShock lacks the depth in either plot...
What?
I get tired of hearing about the plot twist in that game, but I do have to give it credit for being incredibly deep.

The first reason is because Bethesda acknowledge every major flaws of Morrowind and said they corrected them with Oblivion. In particular, they put a lot of emphasis on the "advanced" AI of Oblivion. I didn't know the company and, as I read a few previews which also praised the AI, I thought they could be at least partially truthful, which meant to me I could like Oblivion.
Second reason is I had bought a new video card two weeks before the release of the game. I thought that even if the game was not as good as what the reviews said, at least I could test my video card with this shiny new game.
Third reason is Bethesda said they wouldn't release a demo. So I knew that if I wanted to look at the game I had to buy it.
Fourth reason is the game was on special on the first day of the release (and only the first day). I was in the store that day and it was a bit of an impulsive buy.
Of course it turned out that Bethesda lied completely about the AI and other features of Oblivion. A lot were even worse than Morrowind (which I didn't think could be possible). In the end, I bought Oblivion because I was naive. But as I said, there is no way I will buy another game from Bethesda.

The radiant AI was there, it just died very fast/stupidly.
The two armored imperial foresters near Bruma hunting deer? Found in the middle of the woods shooting at everything that lived, eventually killing each other. The thief in Leyawiin? Got killed by another thief during an attempted theft.
The other AI don't do anything. They just walk around and have one out of five conversations word for word. That was my main problem with the game; the game world felt flat.

Oblivion really had poo AI. I think they should have looked 'radiant' up in a dictionary first. Bioshock had much better AI than that, but better still is STALKER, especially with the Oblivion lost mod to make it shine.
A small Ukrainian dev and a bunch of modders wiping the floor with Bethesda and all their experience and resources.
I sort of see Bioshock as being somewhere in between STALKER and Oblivion in terms of hype vs delivery and vision vs delivery.

STALKER is definitely good stuff. Flawed of course, but man the atmosphere is there and I like the feel of most of the gameplay. Definitely my fav post-apoc game at this point.
My thing with Oblivion is that while it is hollow, flat, empty and pointless, I am a sucker for the concept of a sandbox single player game like that. So I occasionally load up mods and go on a hermit-like romp through the land looking for things to do that entertain me. Certainly the main quest, which yes I've completed before, is not worth doing again (or once for that matter.)
Fallout 3's weird '50s look doesn't work well on me and again the storyline and quests feel rather pointless so I usually just wander aimlessly. I think Oblivion is better honestly if only for the pretty landscape. Oblivion has one or two entertaining guilds too.
Actually my current thing is playing Deus Ex for the first time. Well, mostly the first time anyway. For some reason it didn't keep my attention way back when.

Once again, QFT. This is exactly how I feel about it and games like it. I was not fascinated by the game as much as the fact that it was just another sandbox to play in after San Andreas was played to death.
