Cover and regen health is dumbed down shit for consolefags.

So, a console game is using typical modern gameplay mechanics....not like they're raping babies or anything.

So rumour has it that 2K Boston's next project might be Spec Ops, a shooter that will reportedly be announced at the SpikeTV Video Game Awards.

I really don't know what to make of this if the reports are true. After the success of BS1 one would assume that Levine would have carte blanche to make an ambitious vanity project, but makes another military FPS instead.
If 2K Boston and/or Levine are working on this project, it sounds like the same old generic cookie cutter gameplay that most 3PS since Gears of War have had.
I recall that some of the Bioshock knob slobberers here argued that Bioshock was just to get his foot into the door in regards to introducing the mainstream audience to the properties of the "Immersive Sims" that we've enjoyed in years prior. One would assume that 2K would more likely give him more artistic freedom to work on some projects with more ambitious design (as they have done with the Housers), now that Bioshock has become one of Take Two's big money earners alongside GTA. But if he were to be working on a project as generic sounding as this... it could mean one of many probable reasons. If Levine is just playing it safe, then fuck him really.

2k games isn't 2kboston. Maybe they will be working on a shooter, but so far if thats the only clue its a bit thin.
Please save your junk opinions on Bioshock, it's been argued enough without need for added jibes this late in.

(
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/spec-ops-spike-tv/59821) Moar.
It's only Gears of Modern Warfare: No Arabian - Call of Dubai. I don't see what the problem is.
HOLY MORAL CHOICES BATMAN
CHOISISSEZ LA BONNE RÉPONSE:
A) UNE ANNÉE SANS LUMIERE! LES ENFANTS! PENSEZ AUX ENFANTS
B) UR MUM!!! @#$%!
C) CRAWLING AROUND BUILDINGS WITH SAND IN YOUR ANUS
I'm going with all of the above.
The Bjork track still scrapes like cat claws scouring chalkboard. 'Army of Me' would have been much more appropriate.
Nicely dramatic voice acting though. And I like the Call of Dubai theme. Very picturesque. The action looks quite pretty actually, if that's real gameplay footage. If Levine's writing it and can pull off an intriguing villain (i.e., not theatrically insane yet again, a la Sander Cohen) and a story that's
not a CoD: MW/post 9/11 cash-in, you can colour me intrigued.
Meanwhile though, I'll be watching from the corner. And shaking my head.

If Levine's writing it
then it's an automatic skip
Sulphur on 14/12/2009 at 18:58
Oh, I don't know. He can clearly do intriguing and affecting stuff, and he's obviously a flexible writer - from SWAT to Freedom Force to the overdone rehash of SS2 that was Bioshock; though even BS had its inspired bits - Sander Cohen and Ryan get the automatic 'get out of jail free' card.
It's the 'overdone rehash' bit that I'm not certain about here. But we'll see in due course if he's even attached to this project in the first place.

I'd presume Cohen was largely Jordan Thomas's work as he was almost solely in Fort Frolic and fits in well with his previous stuff like the Cradle. Don't know for sure though.
You left Thief 1 off your list, KL wrote most of the general story there so he gets at least some credit for Constantine and Viktoria too.
Aja on 14/12/2009 at 23:28
Levine wrote Cohen. I recall an interview in which he said Cohen was his favourite character to write for.
Zygoptera on 15/12/2009 at 01:31
Ah. I stand corrected then.
