I don't think he owes me an apology, I'm just not that interested in anything he's doing anymore. Which seems like a shame, but hey ho.

Of course it doesn't, it is a different game entirely. To me the only thing they have in common is the first person view. :erg:
As for my experience; I've played SS2 through over dozen times, I was on all fours struggling to finish my first (and likely the last) runthrough of Bioshock.

Like I said, it's nothing personal - I'm sure he's a great guy. And whether anyone actually liked the game or not is irrelevant. But it does seem to me that he kind of led people on (specifically this community, which he already knew trusted him to some degree) and made a lot of promises about the game that at the time he must have known to be patently untrue. Seems like somewhere along the way, in any such situation, there's a point where said individual should man up and admit that his statements have been misleading at best.
For the record, I enjoyed Bioshock too, but it's not at all what Ken said it was going to be. I understand the commercial risks of creating an SS clone so I don't blame the guy. But doesn't it seem that both Ken and Warrren tried purposely to align themselves with the concerns of ttlg with both the SS and Thief franchises instead of bluntly stating that they were doing something more mainstream than the originals? Why do they care what we think about these projects anyway? What's the point of trying to reassure us (as Eidos Montreal is now doing) that we'll be happy with the outcome? Especially when any moron can compare the originals with these sequels (be they "spiritual" sequels or otherwise) and realize that we generally won't?

I'm still around. Reading, not posting.
Apologies if it felt like a vanished on you during launch -- it was quite a busy time and I didn't mean it to feel like I disappeared on you!

Eh, I'll take Bioshock over SS2 any day. While I think Bioshock is the more flawed of the two, I actually enjoyed playing it, which is more than I can say for SS2. That isn't meant as a
criticism of SS2, as the game is actually very good at doing what it does, but one thing it does
not do is "Bioshock but better."
A+ post, would read again.

I'm actually in the same boat. System Shock 2 is a great game, for sure. But I'd rather play BioShock anyday. This isn't an attack on SS2 based on it's age - after all, my favourite game is Thief 2. But rather, BioShock seems to know right from the start what it is and what it wants to be. A shooter. With System Shock, it never seemed to know what it wanted to be. Jack of all trades, master of none sort of thing.
Maybe I'm just not as jaded from all the pre-release "Spiritual successor to System Shock" and "Shooter 2.0" crap. Almost two years after it was released, and no one can mention the game without the BioShock Hatred Brigade being set loose. Death to the King of Evil Ken Levine and his unholy spawn, BioShock. That sort of thing.

I did play SS2, after finishing Bioshock. My first runthrough, documented somewhere on these forums, was absolutely maddening, even if I could appreciate why everyone was so into it. Second runthrough was a lot more fun because I didn't use PSI (also I skipped the Rickenbacker). In the end I like both games for different reasons, but I will admit that SS2 is the more interesting and experimental of the two.

Which is of course is exactly what everyone is saying when they criticize the game or the publicity that accompanied it. Or it could be possible that people can state their opinion and observations of the whole thing without being either a fanboy or a homicidal maniac. I'm just saying it's
possible.

While I didn't think Bioshock was the all out disaster that some thought it was, I was still disappointed and thought it was only average. And anyone who thinks Bioshock is actually better than SS2, well, they need to have their TTLG membership revoked, or at least be confined to CommChat for eternity. :tsktsk:

Hey man, I'm sure it's possible. But only a lying douchebag could say that's what happened here. ;)
Bottom line is: this thread should never have been filled with BS.
