I can see dethtoll's point though. I mean, one of the mechanics of Hired Guns was that there would always be four characters in play at any time (subject to deaths); Red Alert 3 substituted an AI assistant if you couldn't play co-op. I don't see it as much of a stretch that Left 4 Dead (and despite how you might mock dethtoll's use of the title to prove a point, they spelt it that way for a reason) is by definition supposed to involve four characters.
Why is this such a difficult concept to agree on?

It could still involve 4 different characters (maximum) but have 2-players as an option too, it would'nt be too much of a stretch in regards to the title. But yeah, some people (dethtroll, matthew and quite a few other people here on ttlg) would probably be far too confused by that and wouldn't be able to play the game, which ofcourse, would be a shame.
But seriously people.. his arguments are really.. retarded. How can anyone say something like that the game would be impossible to play 2-player no matter how easy they would make it?

If you think a "4" in the title is more important than being able to have an extra feature such as 2-player mode (that you arent forced to use!), then yes i think you're quite stupid, and selfish. That a few other games has shitty design as well doesnt make it a better choice, does it?
edit: in the second paragraph, about "retarded arguments" i was talking about dethtroll, in case that was unclear..

I think you have 'post hoc ergo propter hoc' turned around. The '4' in the title is there because of the four-character dynamic, the game mechanism is not there because of the number in the title. And if you were being sarcastic, then it didn't work.
I mean, I was honestly trying to reconcile viewpoints at the start but it's like you're being willingly obtuse here, as well as jumping to the conclusion that I'm somehow on someone else's 'side'. That you took it so seriously must mean i was onto something. Anyways, your so-called argument doesnt hold, the dynamics is made for 4-player, because the game is 4-player and not 2-player, this is all very clear to me and i don't know why i have to explain this over and over.
It's not like this is a game where the different characters have their own specialities, then i would agree that 2-player would be too much of a hassle for them to incoporate 2-player mode. That is all i'm saying.
