Jesus, you're a moron.
And you're quite gullible. You genuinely believed I was being serious?

I don't
need to know them personally. It's a business; its main motivation is to make money.
You're probably right, (okay, more than that, I'm willing to accept I'm wrong) but you have to give me some credit for calling you out on your assumption, even if what you say is based on prior knowledge about other businesses. Keep in mind I never fully disagreed with you, of course a business wants to make money. I acknowledge that. I was just debating the primary motivation here.
@dethtoll:
fuck off. So tired of your comments. At least I try to contribute and make conversation rather than flaming and insulting others just to prove a point or whatever reason you justify for doing such things. If you'd just get off my back then there wouldn't be these pointless debates between us.

Pointless debates? Is that what you call me pointing out you're wrong and you getting your panties in a bunch about it?

But let's not kid ourselves; their main motivation is to make money, even if their business model is way more customer friendly than other companies in the industry.
I read your post and it looked contradictory to me. Obviously there is a cultural difference between us. To me, saying that someone's main motivation is to make money is clearly derogatory. It kind of means this person doesn't really care about his product and he would drop it and suddenly replace it with another if it could mean more money. He thinks the best job is basically the one which pay the most and what he does and for whom he does it is not that important to him. He doesn't care about his customers and he will have no hesitation screwing them if he could get away with it. He doesn't really care about society or even ethics. All he wants is money.
So just to make sure we discuss about the same thing, when you say that GOG main motivation is to make money, is that what you mean?
nicked on 1/4/2012 at 09:19
That's a very black and white definition. No-one said their motivation was 100% money. Anyone running any kind of business under any circumstances pretty much must be motivated by money, otherwise why would they do it? The purpose of a business is to make money. That doesn't mean you can't have more altruistic motives as well.

You said that I didn't understand economics and should give up, which was clearly an attack on my character. That's what you do to me all the time.
If you wanted to just point out I was wrong you could have just said, sneaksie, you're wrong because of x, y, and z. No, instead you intentially get me riled up , hence the "pointless debates." Damnit, why do I even bother?
I think nicked put it quite well. Anyways, can we stop arguing about GOG's motivation and start talking again about the offerings?
They've got Trine on there which I'm considering purchasing from them because it includes the soundtrack in the bonus stuff for the game. I don't care about cross-platform since I won't be playing it on anything but Windows anyway. Trine has been on sale on steam for 2 bucks but it seems it does not have the soundtrack. (Though one can just rip the music from the game files itself.)

meanie!!! TRIGGER WARNING FOR HIGHSCHOOL TOILET DUNKING"
I said you didn't understand economics because you don't fucking understand economics. Several times you were given an explanation for gog's behaviour and you were like "hurrr let's throw out the obvious rationales and make shit up!"

No, it's an attack on your
intelligence.
If you were smarter you would have understood that.

Considering that pre-ordering Grimrock direct from the developer gets you a DRM free copy, a Steam key and all of the GOG extras... the GOG deal sucks hard by comparison.
I just ordered from gog last night before reading this. But it looks like all you miss out on that deal is a steam key. So why does it suck hard in comparison?

I was going to write more, but I see the thread's moved on (uh, yeah), so I'll keep this short.

No, I don't.
Because:
a) that'd just be silly, and
b) what nicked said.
It
is possible to want to make money and still be a nice person, after all. ;)
