LOL, they got the goddamned name wrong...
Pagan is 8, not 7...
(speaking on sulphur's old review scan).

What's GoG? Is it something like GOG?
Eheh. And to think that I used to be a grammar Nazi!

Anyway, I've been checking the site pretty often the last few days, and it was up every time.
This is bizarre; I still can't access it. I've never had this problem with any other web site, and I've never had any problems with GOG until now. I don't even know how to go about trying to get this fixed, as I can't e-mail GOG--I don't know their e-mail and can't check their website to find out!

I had this problem. Strangely, it would work on my desktop while not working on my laptop. Try clearing out cookies or restarting the browser or use a different browser.

One thing I had with gog.com when I couldn't reach it, a while back, was that I let Firefox auto-complete the URL, and it pointed to http
s://www.gog.com, which used to exist, but doesn't anymore. Make sure you're going to (
http://www.gog.com) (without the s) or you get a 404.

Harvester has a good point, I remember this happening to me too and I thought the site was down for a day or two until I figured it out.

For me gog.com's Ultima 7 is unplayable, it's too slow or fast no matter of settings. Exult works, but it lacks some NPC scripts, and this is the most important thing in this game for me.

What do you mean by the lacking NPC scripts? I've played U7 through quite a few times over the years and I've never noticed anything too obvious missing/not working in the Exult version. :erm: Then again, it's been at least 15 years since I last played the original "unemulated" version...
I bought U8 on gog not too long ago and gave it a try, and it turned out to be quite a big disappointment. I never liked U8 as much as U7, but I still thought that it was a
good game, just not a classic like U7. But it certainly hasn't aged very well. The controls feel very clumsy and the game looks rather ugly nowadays (unlike U7 that still looks decent today because of its own distinctive style, in my opinion)... I used to think that exploring the game world in U8 was fun, but the isometric camera angle makes it a pain, and since everything in the world of Pagan seems to be grey, it all looks a bit depressing and repetitive now. I didn't get very far in the game this time around (only played it for like half an hour or so), so perhaps I just needed some more time to get used to the controls and everything, I vaguely remember U8 getting a bit better after the boring beginning after all... I'm not sure if I'm ever going back to this one though, I've got so many other games to play and not enough time.
I kinda feel like replaying U9 again some time, I know it's most likely not going to be a very enjoyable gaming experience, but maybe the masochist in me wants to witness the sad ending of the Ultima series one more time.

At least in hindsight I prefer Ultima VIII to the final instalment in the series. U8 works well as a short-story spin-off; it lacks most of the qualities of what I look for in an Ultima game, but I liked the moody darkness of its world. It really felt like I was on my own after always having the gang to fall back on.
Ultima IX took me back to a Britannia that was much, much smaller than it had been, and it's the familiarity that killed it for me. It's like returning to a miniature version of the place you knew, that doesn't feel a tenth as alive. Ultima VIII's Pagan didn't feel all that alive either, but the place was morbid and half-dead in terms of the story it was telling, so it was more fitting.

I assume you've seen (
http://spoonyexperiment.com/2012/05/29/ultima-9-ascension/) Spoony's dissection of the game? If not be warned that he has an over-the-top style that might not appeal but by the end of the third part it's clear that he has genuine affection for the series and how much of a let-down the finale was.
Ultima 7 (and Serpent Isle although it was more linear) where where the series hit the peak for me and the guys who made Exult have done a fantastic job of making it still playable on today's computers.
