Ooh, I always wanted to play that back in the day. The graphics looked like we'd reached the next level in 1996. Never got 'round to it... was it any good, anyone remember?

Rumor has it that Privateer 2 started out as an entirely different game (simply called "The Darkening") and got its Privateer tag very late in the development process. I was a big fan of the original Privateer, and I found its sequel a huge disappointment. It probably didn't help that I had to play the German version which came with horrible voice acting and amateurish translation errors. IMO, the only redeeming factor was the FMV content which was well done for its time. Other than that, I can't really recommend it, but YMMV.

I can believe that, since the setting is apparently completely different to the Wing Commander universe.
