I think I'll skip most of the emulation if possible. I'm working through the VOGONS advice right now :)
edit: That went fairly predictably, I guess. Ignoring audio, it runs near-perfectly with the aid of NOLFB. The audio really is poked, though. Sadly, though, none of the fixes I've tried so far have been successful. I think I still have a one or two other things to check out, though...

Probably because it's for Linux only, doesn't appear to have been updated for several years and not many have ever heard of it?
Bingo. What's wrong with dosbox? It's a fantastic program.:)

If you have to ask...

Well this is annoying. I purchased Shogo from gog.com this morning, but the mouse does not work in game at all. You can't turn, and assigning mouse buttons to actions results in nothing. It actually *does* work in wine, but there are other issues that make the game problematic there. Too bad this society is based on greed and hording, where nobody releases source code to ten year old games. I'm sure the fans would have fixed something like this long ago if the source code had been released. Now, maybe I'll have to install Windows 95 on this PC to get the game to work properly... Fortunately, it has a geforce6 series card, which actually has Win95 drivers! Guess I'll keep the card around for that reason alone.
It is another reason why I respect John Carmack. Just install any quake engine game on a modern machine and notice how it works fine.
I originally tried the game on WinXP, but now I've got it working fine on my Arch Linux install that runs bleeding-edge software. I just used the mousewarpoverride=force hack in the wine registry. Now the mouse works great and the graphics aren't corrupt.

Did you ever consider using
GOOGLEQuote:
If you are having problems using a USB mouse with Shogo or any other game, the best way to fix this problem is to turn off MOUSE ACCELERATION in your Control Panel. This may solve your problem! If this does not work, unplug your USB mouse and use a regular one, or get the 2.2 patch for the full version of SHOGO.
Sweet Christmas, you went to the trouble to get it running in Linux when you could have just googled the problem you stupid FITE DA SYSTSUM dumbshit.

Actually, I did see that, and I did try connecting my mouse to the machine via a PS/2 to USB adapter, but that had no effect. Thanks for your kind words anyway. :)

You've contacted GOG tech support, and checked their Shogo forum?

Well it's almost working nicely, but the audio is still a bit crap. Not nearly as bad as before, however.
My machine wouldn't run Blood at all without NOLFB to fix the VESA support, but that works a treat. This left me with a working game that was sometimes quite stuttery, and had horrendous audio (which I think was related to the stuttering).
I tried both VDMSound and SoundFX2000, but the game wouldn't run at all with either of them :/
Eventually I tried patching the executable with a utility called cli2nop, which does something
supposedly handled automatically by Windows XP; but that's clearly inaccurate as it was pretty successful, meaning the audio, while still not
good, is now tolerable. According to the docs I can expect some crashes as a consequence of using that patch, but so far so good.

I don't understand why you're subjecting yourself to all that crap, Shadowcat. The game works absolutely flawlessly through DOSbox. Is your hardware just not up to snuff to run it at playable speeds?
