The sequel to a Gothic, highly atmopsheric FPS that's dripping with Dark humour trades in all of those traits in favour for generic Quake 2-ish industrial facilities, boring urban environments and minor Sci-fi elements. The best part of that game was probably the awesome concept art.
I heard that the expansion pack was a lot more Blood 1-ish though, I never got around to playing that.

Oh, and the gameplay is utter shit and the engine is almost uglier than Quake 2. Almost. It feels like a budget game, the combat is so janky.

Hah, I was going to reference Quake 2 as well. Triple-play ftw!
Anyway, a big part of my disappointment in the game: the maps were just bad. They made zero sense in the real-world, were maze-like, and just bland. And the game was just not fun. I THOROUGHLY enjoyed killing fools in Blood 1...Blood 2 couldn't make the simple act of firing a gun worthwhile.
Oh, and the weapons were crap when stacked next to B1.

The expansion does have a quite different set of levels.
And however ugly you may find Blood 2, at least it's not as pixelated as Blood.

I'd take a late gen sprite engine like Build over an early gen polygon one like Lithtech 1.0, thanks. Not that I'm hang up on graphics like Dethtoll seems to be.
With that said, Shogo holds up because it's stylised and that the gameplay is above average. Both titles were developed simultaneously and released around the same time, but clearly Monolith's "A" team worked on that title, rather than Blood 2.
EDIT: When I said "pixel engine" I obviously meant sprite-based.

Agreed. +1 some of the games with the more 'memorable visuals' aren't necessarily using bleeding edge engines, but simply had great artists that pulled some style out of their asses, making the most of what they had, instead of just relying on shaders and high def. trickery to mask their lack of imagination and creativity.

Sorry, but hating a shitty game with an ugly engine and shitty graphic assets because it doesn't even hold up well to its contemporaries- including the other game using the
same engine but to better effect- does not make me 'hung up on graphics.' Fuck off lucky star.

I've gotten past the part with the steam tunnels where you have to locate/disable the valves to proceed. Now I'm where the demo originally took place. The game is fun, but it is REALLY dark. I had to enable drawflat 1 just to see where I was going in those tunnels earlier. There is also a gamma console command, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Perhaps I can just use my nvidia controls to crank the brightness.
I like the way those enemies go Kamikaze when their health is low. Also, I could have swarn I've seen one enemy kill another. I think it was on accident though, not like in DooM where they will fight if friendly fire occurs.
The level design is decent enough. It certainly isn't as bland and repetitive as Quake 2.

Just got Blood 2, and it seems a good fun game, especially for $6. However the game keeps crashing to Desktop with an MFC error (?!?) after about 10min. Anybody else had stuff like this happen?
