And they go from heading up Bullfrog, creating some of the most highly regarded games of the last 1/4 century, to cramming Fable game after Fable game down our throats.

Same people, but for some reason they all went insane. Just think... Gears of War came from the same people that made Unreal. :(
Actually Unreal 2 was developed by Legend Entertainment. Who're best known for that old first person Wheel of Time game.

And the Unreal exp pack 'Return to Na Pali', which I thought was MUCH better than Unreal 2.

Cramming down our throats, how so?
Fable II was the most satisfying and insidiously delightful game Peter Molyneux has been involved in since Syndicate IMO - quite looking forwards to seeing how the third installment pans out.

Not difficult, even the fan created mod (
http://www.moddb.com/mods/operation-na-pali/reviews/operation-na-pali-a-ut-classic) Operation Na Pali kicked Unreal 2 into a cocked hat, too. Let's face it, Unreal 2 was a real turd.

You mean someone actually thinks Unreal 2 wasn't just that little technicolour splat running down the side of a wall at a nearby Halo bukkake party that also featured Barney and the Teletubbies?

I really liked Unreal 2. Sure it was a Halo clone, but back then Halo was the only Halo, and I thought Unreal 2 had a much more enjoyable SP campaign than Halo did. Much more variety in weapons, enemies, and locations. Not to mention colour palette. And nobody can say colour palette isn't an issue with all the pissing and moaning that came out of Jericho.

This.

The main selling point for me about Unreal was the desolate, lonely, hostile yet beautiful landscape and atmosphere. So the first thing Unreal 2 does is saddle you with expositionary cutscenes, a bunch of half-arsed sci-fi cliches hanging around your ship, and a large number of obvious, recognisable human enemies in predictable sci-fi environments. That the gameplay was Halo-inspired dull cover-fest instead of the dodge-and-strafe gameplay of the first was just the icing on the cake. Hell, even the Skaarj were basically just turned into Elites.
The real low point was the vaguely Giger-esque metal planet near the end with all the sentinals from the matrix as enemies. It was like someone played the Library from Halo and thought "This is great!" :( Either that or the ending... which was a) very silly, b) completely abrupt and unexpected.
On its own, it's an average Halo clone. As the sequel to Unreal, it's a mess and a goddamn disappointment.

I'll concede your point. Especially since GoW is basically Unreal 3, and it got even worse.
