You are on a forest path. Exits are to the east, and west. Along the north edge of the path is a small cabin with a mailbox in front. There is a Dethtoll here, guarding the mailbox. He is sputtering his lips, making airplane noises. Fuck knows why. I guess you don't get it.
Command?
>Punch Dethtoll

Really? Zork? People want IF? Wow, GOG is really pimping their middle initial.
When I can, I'll probably buy it. I played the first Zork game a long, long time ago but got easily confused by it because of how young I was. I would like to take another swing at it now, and also check out the sequels, so I'm glad it's there. Plus, it might open the door for a release of Nord and Bert, which I also haven't played in ages and would like to take another shot at.

It's not like they're selling Pac Man or Tetris or something. The Infocom games haven't been available for a very, very long time now. And the thing about text is that, unlike 8-bit pixel graphics, it doesn't age. Well,
mostly doesn't age.
You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.
I'd rather have Pac-Man and Tetris. It ain't Good Old Books...

Never mind, gunny. Horses for courses.

The Infocom games weren't books. Well, the Infocomics were, but they were terrible. Infocom made games that were more interactive than most modern adventure games and RPG's are. The writing, while excellent, was relatively concise.
Sulphur on 18/1/2011 at 22:32
I dunno, I'd say it's an equal fifty-fifty split between the writing and interactivity most of the time. I'd say the early Infocom games didn't really show much in the writing department given the memory constraints of the time. How Planetfall managed to make a lovable character despite that is a minor miracle in itself.
However, move on to Spellbreaker, Leather Goddesses of Phobos, Trinity, and A Mind Forever Voyaging and the quality of the writing's arguably just as or even more important than the actual puzzling and world interaction.
Edit: Well, never mind. Most of my point's unnecessary after your edit.

Having Zork is cool. Although I do recall the original Zork being available for download on some obscure sites somewhere. I dont remember if they had claimed it was abandonware or some BS like that or if they said it had actually been released to the public like SS1.
Police Quest really excites me though. I never played any of them but the 4th one, not that the games themselves excite me, but seeing Kings Quest collection, then Space Quest collection, and now Police Quest collection. Not to mention Betrayal and Krondor. I see a Quest for Glory Collection in the future, and that is something I'll probably go apeshit over.
