So I recently forked out cash for an overpriced (well, maybe not that overpriced) Xbox 360 controller for my PC. My reasoning being that it would be better for playing certain types of game and shoddy PC ports. So far I've only really played GTA4 with it, where it's predictably better for driving and worse for shooting. Problem is, I've already completed GTA4 once with a keyboard so I only play it occasionally now to drive around and blow shit up.
I also gave Devil May Cry 4 a whirl, but again I've already completed it on normal and legendary dark knight mode with the keyboard, and trying to relearn the controls on a level that I couldn't get past before on Son of Sparda isn't a very forgiving experience. I downloaded some third party drivers which let you play unsupported games like DMC3, but again I've already completed that, so haven't bothered trying it with the controller.
The only game I've got that I haven't completed that would be better with the controller is Assassin's Creed, which I tried playing for a bit, but found fairly dull and the controls clunky (with either M&K or the 360 controller).
So, can anyone recommend any PC games that are best played with a controller. Something fun and easy going that I can just play in bed (because I can do that now :D) would be nice, but I'll give anything that's good a shot.

I was where you are a few months back and I tried and liked these games with the gamepad:
Madden
Tiger Woods
Bioshock
RE4
Far Cry 2
Fallout 3
Dead Space
Freespace 2
Jade Empire
Dreamfall
For a while felt that these games (the shooters at least) played better with the 360 gamepad.
Looking back, I'd say I was wrong. Now I only use it for RE4 (mandatory) FS2 and Madden and Tiger Woods.
Let's hope your thread doesn't degenerate into the old 'Gamepad vs Mouse & Keyboard' war.

Trackmania United (or the free version Trackmania Nations)
Psychonauts
Beyond Good and Evil (must use a program like Xpadder)

The LEGO Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Batman games play a lot better with a controller than with keyboard IMO.
Since you mentioned GTA 4, Prototype may be another option. The shooting parts actually work well with a controller in that game.

Better with a 360 pad:-
GRID
Need For Speed: Most Wanted
Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2
HAWX
Alone in the Dark (2008) is utterly unplayable with m+kb (a total overly complex, cryptic nightmare), a 360 pad is required. There's also a bug whilst using kb/m controls, where the inventory screen freezes when you go to mix items.
I played Mercenaries 2 using a combination of the two:-
-360 pad for driving.
-Kb+m for on-foot run and gunning.
I tried Assassin's Creed with my 360 pad, TBH I found the KB+m controls to be much better, especially camera control.
Braid and Audiosurf have fully 360 pad support, although I wouldn't play Audiosurf with anything other than a mouse. Braid would likely be fine though.

Bioshock
Far Cry 2
Fallout 3
Dead Space
Oh shut up. You were already proven to be dead wrong about those four in (
http://ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1845371#post1845371) the Dead Space thread (DON'T forget about (
http://ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1845508#post1845508) the second page now), they control much better with kb+m.
Don't bring up this piss poor entirely inaccurate advice again, you're not doing anyone any favours.
EDIT: My apologies to Chuck. I didn't read his post fully, good to know that he's since learnt that he was wrong. Seeing him mention those titles sent me into a rage.

I primarily use my 360 pad for playing PS1 emulated games and driving games. Eg Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill are utterly unplayable on a keyboard.
I've created Xpadder profiles for the PC versions of Final Fantasy VIII, Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey + Abe's Exodus and Sonic Adventure DX. Lemme know if you want any of them. The former three are recreations of the Playstation version layouts.

Rainbow Six Vegas controls pretty well with the controller, not sure if the second one is out on PC (probably is) but it's a fun little game to plow thru.
Bioshock truly does feel better with the controller, I don't know why but I find the mouse & keyboard controls to be utter piss on that game.
I also greatly prefer all of the Call of Duty games with a controller, it's a shame that the developers didn't support it on the PC.
All I'll say on the matter of controllers and keyboard + mouse is that I simply find controllers more comfortable. Competitively, sure, the mouse will ALWAYS win. But on the 360 the entire playing field is leveled anyways and I simply prefer the comfortability.

Fuck this game. Rented it with a friend a while back and it's become something that we reference when we want to point out how mind-numbingly terrible something is.

Cheers for all the replies. Can't say sports games interest me in the slightest, so no golf or football for me. Also I don't think I'll ever play a first person shooter with a gamepad, so I'll stick to mouse and keyboard for Farcry 2, Fallout 3 etc.
I picked up Need for Speed: Most Wanted and have been playing it most of the day, thanks for that recommendation. I had been thinking I should get a proper racing game, since all my boy racer gaming fun has come from various GTA games in the past, where it is diluted by everything else in the games. The cut-scenes in Need for Speed are quite funny, but the music is shit and unlike GTA (correct me if I'm wrong), you can't tell the game to play your mp3s, so I have to run winamp in the background, which is a minor annoyance but no biggie.
I think this'll keep me ticking over for the time being, I might pick up prototype at some later date. Speaking of which, Prototype vs Infamous? Zero punctuation said they were basically the same thing. Which one is better?

That's actually the opposite of what ZP said.
