If you buy a cheap $5 Chinese controller you deserve what you get. Logitech is well worth the money.

...and the split button playstation ones are at least reasonably okay, cos at least they cannot be imprecise, although not really as fluent as the buttons aren't connected.
Not as fluent, and it's damn near impossible to hit diagonals. That crosshair is one of the reasons why I didn't like the PS controller up until they released the dual shock, and why I didn't like the PSP as much as I should've.

Logitech's analog gamepads (the rumble/non-rumble dual shock clones) are the lowest quality peripherals I've ever owned for a game system or computer. It's weird considering how utterly fantastic their mice and the G25/G27 wheels are, but those 2 gamepads in particular have the worst build quality ever. I've owned 2 or 3 of them, never used them much (just basically for Lego Star Wars/MVP Baseball 2005) and they've all had serious issues with the right analog stick within 6 months. Do some research you'll find everyone else has the same issue too.
The Xbox 360 pad, on the other hand, is fantastic aside from compatibility issues with a few games, and if you use the third party xbcd drivers it works flawlessly with anything. The actual pad itself is rugged as hell and has stayed fully calibrated and functional through multiple seasons of NHL 09 (I destroy gamepads with hockey games like it's no one's business - I'm on like pad #4 for my Xbox in a season and a half of NHL 2k7).

I'd buy one of these before a genuine xb controller.

to the OP. My friend likes using his for Borderlands. But he plays on a TV and is a Halonerd too so he prefers the joystick. He does have problems with it though. Like the zoom being a hold zoom on his thumbstick. and he can't remap it apparently.

These have analogue shoulder buttons which is nice for arcade racing games and games that combine driving with other things (for example gta):

With a pad it's easier to switch between mouse/keyboard and it on the fly. With a wheel, less so.
Not sure about the d-pads on either but then you can but try. Also who knows about the analogue on either too. Mind you i found nintendo do the best analogue sticks and d-pads yet no third party seems to use theirs as ‘inspiration’. The dual trigger one is close but perhaps a bit too big? Or what do you think?

That does not look like a comfortable controller to me. The d-pad is too large, for one. It should only be slightly larger than your thumb, otherwise you'll have to cover that much more space to move about. And the boxy shape...man...it's killing my hands just looking at it.
That Cyborg controller Volition linked to is a helluva lot better looking. It's about the same shape as the 360 pad, which is the most comfortable controller I've ever used. And the switchable d-pad/analog stick...brilliant idea. If it works fairly well, I'd suggest it over a real 360 pad, too.

Here's the weird thing- I had an issue with the right stick too, right out of the box.
After six months or so, it started behaving.
I don't fucking know, man.

No one mentioned Super Meat Boy?
Renzatic on 9/3/2011 at 21:15
Super Meat Boy. One of the first thing that pops up when you load the game is a warning telling you you're stupid if you play it with a keyboard.

I am sorry, I could just never bring myself to buy and use something named 'THRUSTMASTER' outside of the bedroom...
