Google+ has gained 50 million users in 3 months. That's something of a dent, imho. I think the hard thing will be getting the grandmas to switch over

I just watched The Social Network, which has piqued my curiosity some( really, I am always curious about this stuff, just really can't be bothered with it for the most part. Too much like hard work).
In the movie they even ask the question "What is it about facebook that (will be) so special" over friendster and bebo and myspace. But it doesn't quite answer it. They say it's exclusivity or something. But that doesn't really explain it.
If I recall correctly, the exclusivity thing was only referring to the original requirement for users to have a Harvard, or later any university, email account.

Initially yeah. But they sort of strung that to being all about knowing people who know people, which I think is still in there. Or was for most of its life.
In any case I don't think that was the secret of its success and set it apart from all the other similar things. The movie just played it up.

But I wonder how many of those 50 million users created an account just to see what Google+ is like, and then went back to Facebook or whatever and forgot all about Google+. I think the hard thing will be making people stay using the service.

Well tbh I don't see much value in either service. I can see why people would go back to facebook though. Google seem to be a long way behind facebook on controlling the tidal wave of spam and bullshit

Sitting here in Google+, all alone, feeling naked to the world and rather embarrassed. Oh wait: that's right! Nobody can see me here because I haven't actually done anything with my Circles, etc. Joined just to find out what all the hype was about because you can't find out unless you join. The site's been trying to connect to my Yahoo account for the past half hour. This is stupid.
Think I'll go join Not Google+ now.
(Great one, btw, PG.) :cheeky:
